He didnt take the effort to reverse the image. He just cut out the silk screen by laying it over the original and it was reversed from there. I imagine he was so incompetent that he didn't realize that they image was reversed until the news report.

Even worse. But perfectly in keeping with the radical Lefty conviction that everything out there, from the artworks of others, to the T-bone steaks in the supermarket, in fact belongs to them, because, of course, they are The People.
