Jiang Zemin requests for resignation from State CMC
Jiang Zemin, chairman of China's State Central Military Commission (CMC), has requested for resignation from his remaining post as chairman of the commission, according to a letter read at a presidium meeting of the National People's Congress, China's parliament, Friday.
China's legislature, the National People's Congress (NPC), will review the request of Jiang Zemin to resign from his chairmanship of the State Central Military Commission (CMC) at the imminent annual session beginning Saturday, a spokesman for the annual session said Friday.
Spokesman Jiang Enzhu told the press that the Third session of the 10th NPC will also elect the new chairman of the State Central Military commission, and decide on the members of the State CMC according to nomination of the new State CMC chairman.
Jiang Zemin, 78, resigned as chairman of the CMC of the Communist Party of China last September, and was succeed by Hu Jintao.
Hu Jintao is widely expected to be elected as the new chairman of the State CMC, as the practice in the past two decades.
Whatever could this mean?
1. It means he will get notariety.
2. Hu Jintao and those in his fold will be making some concessions for such a move.
3. Those within Jiangs group will be receiving special promotions to higher positions of influence.
4. Jiang will still maintain a significant amount of influence in certain affairs as Deng Xiaoping did after he "retired".
oh yeah, and most obvious....Hu will be solidifying his grip on power.
