Megabucks real estate mogul Donald Trump, whose patented phrase,"You're Fired," has become the centerpiece of NBC's hit show "The Apprentice," said Sunday that he'd fire CBS News anchorman Dan Rather if he had the chance.
"I would have fired him a long time ago," Trump told "Fox News Sunday." "I would have said, 'Dan, you're fired.'"
The recently remarried gazillionaire went on to elaborate:
"I'm not a big fan of Dan Rather. I don't want to be a fan of Dan Rather. I don't think he's good at the news. I don't think a lot of people think he's good at the news. He was always highly overrated."
Of the Memogate scandal the precipitated Rather's departure this Wednesday from the anchor chair at the "CBS Evening News," Trump said, "It was disgusting the way it was handled by Dan Rather. And I don't know why they're firing other people - he was the head of it. So why aren't they firing Dan Rather?"
The real estate tycoon did admit that he has some personal animus against the retiring newsman.
"He did a report on me that was basically dishonest," Trump told Foxman Chris Wallace "So since then, I don't deal with him."
I haven't heard anything about Trump being dishonest. What have you heard?
Wow - this is an interesting thread to come across all these years later...almost 16 years.
Back in those days, most Freepers detested Trump and if one of us replied back in 2005 that Trump would become our president and one of the greatest ones at that, we would have been laughed out of this forum.
Rather is the biggest liar in journalism….
He was the fake news I heard as a kid.
Yes!
Yes, indeed.
Not that there wasn’t good reason to have our doubts...from his own actions and statements from the past. But, the policies he pursued were more than a pleasant surprise over his tenure, and 3 fairly decent Supreme Court justices on the whole...and his other contributions to the judiciary.
It is. And it’s interesting that in most terms, I think
Trump was viewed to be much of a person that he actually
is. He’s a billionaire with billionaires responsibilities
and political contributions.
You have to grease the palm of some pretty shady characters
if you want to do business.
Those who were saying he believed in the Clintons were way
way off base.
Now we know.
