Group tries to get rid of Pentagon Channel on DISH TV

Group Against The Troops

To watch the British-government owned BBC, turn to Dish satellite channel 135. For Communist Chinese propaganda? Go to channel 265. In fact, Dish offers more than 100 foreign channels, many government-owned.

Four percent of the Dish satellite bandwidth carries programming at the request of Uncle Sam including government channels from the Universities of Washington and Northern Arizona; something called PBS University and even a channel called Free Speech TV with a show that features in-depth coverage of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender issues.

Yet one group from the lunatic fringe has drawn the line. It wants the Pentagon channel off the air. Launched last year, the Pentagon channel provides the same kinds of feature stories about America's troops that the military has offered for decades on Armed Forces radio and television and in hometown press releases.

Although our military has been recognized for its value, some organizations just don't care for our servicemen and women. They try that old trick of ending their criticism of our military with these five words: "but I support the troops." But they don't.

"Working Assets" is attacking Dish to take The Pentagon channel off the air because it is owned by the government, they say. The extremist group argues that "Propaganda like the Pentagon Channel is not in the public interest." But their argument is completely disingenuous.

The NASA channel, around for years and also owned by the government, has been carried on the Dish network since the 1990s. And this doesn't bother "Working Assets." But when it comes to our military heroes, then that's another story. They do not want the friends and families of our troops to have access to anything that just might offer a positive message of our troops as compared to Al Jazeera, the channel that publicizes American kidnappings and beheadings, also carried on Dish, which "Working Assets" seems to be okay with.

Groups like these have a First Amendment right to attack our troops. That they do says a lot about their lack of character.

And that's The Point.

Just saw this on FOX, thought it was a great point. I couldn't believe this "Working Assets" group and their typical liberal hypocrisy, thought I'd share it with you.

This has also turned me against DISH TV; I'm upgrading to digital cable.

I don't get the Pentagon Channel with Comcast, but I get the new Military Channel, which I highly enjoy watching.

Though I agree with your views about the liberal whack jobs, going to digital cable is NOT an "upgrade". Quality with DISH or DIRECT TV is much better. Price wise Dish is the better value. All around Sat tv is MUCH better. I USED to sell DISH and DIRECT TV, but no longer, so I have nothing to gain by talking up sat tv. I'm just a construction worker who used to have digital cable, but have had DISH for over 2 years now, and would never go back to cable.

That's is putting it nicely. If you ever catch so-called "Free Speech TV" what you will find is a bunch of anti-American agitprop. Anti-Israel & pro-palestinian blather is also standard fare. I found on the local "local access" channel. It's hard core leftism.

Ha, go to Dish channels 9415 & 9412, these domestic American haters are so far left they would make Mao and Stalin blush.

I love watching free speech TV. I am slowly turning a couple of my renters from mild leftists over to the conservative side by showing them the crap this channel spews. You have never seen so many easily verified lies as these people spout.

What channel is the pentagon channel BTW I haven't seen it?

Is Direct-TV required to do the same? Which is better, in anyone's opinion?

Poor guys...just might turn the channel and find a nilitary program!!! On the other hand, we have NPR programming 24 hours a day here (Germany). Seems like we HAVE to have this to make sure we're all rightly oriented for life!

From their web site

WORKING ASSETS
MISSION, DONATIONS AND ACTIVISM

MISSION
Working Assets was established in 1985 to help busy people make a difference in the world through everyday activities like talking on the phone. Every time customers use one of Working Assets' donation-linked services (Long Distance, Wireless, Credit Card or Online), the company donates a portion of the customer's bill to nonprofit groups working to build a world that is more just, humane, and environmentally sustainable. To date, $46 million has been raised for progressive causes.

The company also serves as a strong political force, dedicated to giving its customers the opportunity to speak out on critical public issues through its Web site and monthly phone bill.

DONATIONS
Since 1985, Working Assets has generated $46 million for progressive nonprofits, including Greenpeace, Oxfam America, Rainforest Action Network, Human Rights Watch, Planned Parenthood, Stand for Children and Doctors Without Borders, among many others.

Each year Working Assets supports nonprofit groups in five categories: Economic & Social Justice, Environment, Civil Rights, Peace & International Freedom and Education & Freedom of Expression. In 2003 alone, Working Assets raised over $3 million in donations for 50 groups such as ACLU, Human Rights Watch, Earth Island Institute, People for the American Way and Center for Economic Justice.

Right now I don't have either, I have the rabbit ears. That's what I meant by an upgrade.

I can't keep up with the changes and additions to the channels available on our DirecTV, but the Military Channel is good. I sometimes get to watch AFN in places like Korea, and enjoy it, so I would definitely watch this Pentagon Channel if Mark Cuban deigned to make it available.

Compare prices of cable vs satellite. Generally satellite tv is cheaper. If you want NFL Sunday Ticket, which allows you to see EVERY televised NFL game throughout the season, then Direct TV is what you want. If your content with normal football broadcasts in your area then there is no advantage to Direct TV. In fact if you have 2 or more tv's to hook up Dish Network will save you $5 a month if you have 2-3 tv's, and $10 if you have 4 tv's, over Direct TV.
Also, Dish Network offers a smaller starting package, for $10 a month less than Direct TV. The other 2 packages are virtually identical. As far as digital cable is concerned, not all the channels on digital cable are digital. With satellite tv, all channels are digital, and DVD quality. Lastly, with cable tv you'll get all types of federal, state, and LOCAL taxes. If you have a $50 a month package on cable, after taxes you might be paying $60-$65 per month. With satellite tv THERE ARE NO TAXES (unless you live in a municapity that has managed to tax it, but I have never heard of that yet), so if your on a $43 a month package with 1-2 tvs you'll pay $43. I hope this helps. Also do a google search of cable versus satellite tv.
