Dan Rather, Leaving By the High Road (Tom Shales loves Dan Rather)
The Washington Post ^ | March 9, 2005 | Tom Shales

Posted on 03/09/2005 12:26:45 PM PST by EveningStar

Emptying out his cubbyhole office in the CBS News building on West 57th Street in New York, wading through stacks and boxes of memorabilia accumulated over the years, Dan Rather came upon a piece of framed embroidery made and sent to him a couple decades ago by a nun who was, one might say, among the faithful -- a regular and loyal viewer.

Neither Dan nor the author would recognize the high-road if they were driving on it. If they suddenly realized where they were, they would take the next exit.

Muggers? Nope, gay bashers. The real quote was:
What did the freak queen see, Kenneth?

"Unlike some of Rather's adventures over the years -- the coolest anchor, he's one of the few men over 60 who can successfully still wear jeans -- this one is dead serious. "

Why do I get the feeling that the sub-text of this line is,
"and I just love looking at how that old @ss looks in those jeans..."

Geez, Shales quotes a nun in his paen to Rather? Oh brother. I think I'm gonna be sick.

And now Mr. rather says he's "guilty of a lot of things," but not of backing down. Methinks he doth protest too much.

"Tell all the truth but tell it slant,

success in circuit lies.

Too bright for our infirm delight,

the truth's superb surprise." -Emily Dickinson

These words are more appropriate for Mr. Rather's demise. Not those of a nun he duped.

Dan Rather, Leaving By the High Road

These talking-heads can slant this any way they want.  He is leaving like a lying, beaten little chimp and we all know it.  He actually thought he had the power to take down a presidency, he lost.

High Road, Low Road, whatever ... take it and leave, Danny.

Who cares what road he leaves on, he’s leaving.

How sweet it is.

Tom Shales has his face planted so firmly in Dan Rather's backside that he can't breath - he'd better come up for air!
