Air out of Today Show Balloon: Judge's Family Murdered by Nut, not Racist Plot
The Today Show | governsleast governsbest

Posted on 03/10/2005 5:33:38 AM PST by governsleastgovernsbest

You could almost hear the disappointment in the voice of Katie and her fellow Today Show types. It looks like the husband and mother of U.S. District Judge Joan Lefkow were not murdered as the result of a plot by Mathew Hale, the leader of the racist, anti-semitic, "World Church of the Creator."

Instead, it appears the murderer was a crackpot, whose loony $1 billion lawsuit against civil authorities had been thrown out of court by Lefkow. The apparent murderer shot and killed himself when detained in a routine traffice stop yesterday, leaving behind a bizarre suicide note accusing the US of being like Al Qaeda, etc.

You just know that Today and the rest of MSM were hoping to tie this murder not merely to racist fringe groups like the "World Church of the Creator," but ultimately to conservatives at large.

Already, MSNBC had run an article entitled "Lefkow Slayings Divide White Supremacists - Some Laud Killings, Ohters Say Violence Hurts Cause." Here's a link:

http://msnbc.msn.com/id/7129533/

If Hale's involvement had been demonstrated, how long would it have been till the MSM started harping on the "climate of intolerance," etc. fostered by the "far-right" that has taken over the government - the same kind of tactics the MSM used in the wake of the Oklahoma City bombing.

Oh well, back to the drawing board for Katie & Co. They're sure to come up with something else in time for Senate confirmation hearings on any future Supreme Court nomination.

Hale had made threats. Yeah, it was a reasonable assumption in the absence of other evidence.

Same as the DC sniper case. Media all over the "white male in a white van" deal. Hardly a peep after the real guys were caught.

My condolences to the Dimocrats.

Been a tough year for them, so far.

May it continue.

Agreed. I thought it was likely he was involved, and you know the MSM was thinking and hoping the same thing.

If your saying Hale isn't just as much a nutbar your sadly mistaken.

He's just innocent of this case.

There goes two news specials, a mini series and endless hours of Katie trying to tie this action to the insenstivity of conservative Republicans. A girl just can't catch a break.

I am sure a lot of people who stood before the judge made threats. Hale was tossed out there because of what he represents, IMHO. Joe Schmo wouldn't elicit that kind of media frenzy.

Sorta like Dan Rather standing in front of General Walker's house after the JFK assasination trying to work up a lynch mob. I guess that was too long ago for most to remember and "the media" was certainly willing to forget it.

We don't know yet if the guy who committed suicide 1.) actually committed the crime, though from what I heard on the radio, it seems reasonable, or 2.) if he did it on the orders, suggestion, or instigation of Matthew Hale (may he rot in hell) or anyone else.

Too soon to discount Matthew Hale or anyone else from involvement. Especially when the man threatened the judge -she was in witness protection for a reason. (How did a nut track down someone's family in witness protection? An interesting question....)

I'm glad you linked that article. I would honestly NOT have believed it without seeing it for myself.

Will MSM EVER EVER learn to stop jumping to conclusions and trying to demonize the right by tying every crackpot TO US?

Apparently, not.

Hopefully those who jumped out quickly to blame the Copt murders on Muslims won't be clucking too loudly in this thread.

It's just another lesson in what happens when people are quick to assume.

I certainly think Hale is an evil person, but from Today's description, it sounds as if the murderer/suicide here was of the truly psychotic/hearing voices variety. Hale doesn't strike me that way.

Eh, the air went out of a lot of balloons at WingNutDaily and for a lot of FReepers when the guys arrested in the Coptic case weren't Muslims.....

It seemed that the NBC reporter broke some news with his report. NBC had gotten the guy's name, researched him and found the wacky suit he had filed that the judge had dismissed, and also apparently was given access to the contents of the suicide note. I haven't seen it reported elsewhere. I'm sure details will be emerging during the day.
