It's NJ. We only need two things:

1. Vote for Frist

2. Don't filibuster judges.

The rest can be handled.

I have gotten in trouble for saying the same thing.

Indeed we have 55 senators. 53 solidly conservative votes that we can count on we the going gets tough. If we can just get the remaining 2 and 5 more to show up during a filibuster then we can take care of the rest. It would give them perfect coverage for back home, just show up - but if you must to protect your own back then vote no.

Is your arithmetic off? I count Chafee as totally useless,, Collins, and Snowe totally unreliable, and Specter and McCain totally unpredictable.

Interesting.

he'll start out the race with good name ID...but I wonder what kind of candidate he'll be.

Does he have the political skills to run an effective race?

Anyone?

Was that strictly party line with two GOP defections?

"who is the likely opponent?"

That remains to be seen. It's a nearly foregone conclusion that Jon Corzine will be the next Governor. But he faces alienating a major faction of his own party if he appoints Bob Menendez or Frank Pallone, as both have strong regional bases. So right now, conventional wisdom is saying that Corzine will appoint a caretaker who won't seek reelection and let the 2006 'Rat primary work itself out.
