Seriously-who here was saying we were supposed to "let people die" as you put it??

I have dealt with posters (several) on other threads who essentially said that -- basically if the individual or their relatives did not have resources, push them off the cliff.

I am deeply anquished and embarrassed that Free Republic has some of that ilk -- basically no better than the worst DU has to offer.

It is really pathetic that some FReepers label me a Marxist and socialist for NOT "letting poor, disabled and elderly people die".

Exactly how is it that you are "NOT letting poor, disabled and elderly people die"? What are you doing to prevent their deaths? Promoting redistribution of income or bloated entitlement programs for them? Poor, disabled and elderly people are dying every day with or without Medicare.

I would like to know where in the Constitution does it say that I have to pay medical expenses for the poor?? To me it is a sin to have my money taken to pay for a shrub who refuses to pay thier own way. If we get rid of the all of the welfare programs there would be no debt at all.

Hmmm indeed.

I suppose it's useless to point out that Clinto inherited a recovery, and Bush inherited a recession.

Never mind that with GOP controlling congress since 95, he could not pass anymore tax increases at all.

Is it a genuine cut, or is it a decrease in the projected rate of growth?

If they were really going to target fraudulent cases (people receiving Medicaid assistance who don't need it or shouldn't be getting it), widespread inefficiency and the fact that illegals are getting a lot of it, I wouldn't have a problem.

But that's not what they're doing.

The administration is trying to give the states less money to fund their Medicaid programs. Thus the states will cut people off and cut benefits to people who need Medicaid. Medicaid is already pretty threadbare as it is in a lot of states. It's not some program full of leeches the way people on FR often portray it.

This is a problem. Instead of specifically targetting REAL problems (benefits for illegals, way too much paperwork and downtime required to administer government benefits programs, etc.), they just say "Just cut it" and end up hurting people.
