SUN CITY, Ariz. - Julia Ruth Stevens' two-bedroom house is filled with mementos of a different era, when her father ruled the athletic world.
On the walls hang more than a dozen framed photos of Babe Ruth. He's swinging a bat. He's smiling. He's wearing a tuxedo, walking his daughter down the aisle at her wedding.

A neat story about Babe Ruth's daughter. I remember reading about her when the D Backs were playing the yankees in the world series in 2001 and she was actually rooting for the D-Backs.

I'm hip to the fact that the Babe has living relatives with us. He was such a piece of history that it really is easy to forget his humanity. I'm going out right now to get a Baby Ruth bar right now. Will Barry ever get a candy bar named after his steroid prescription?

In another photo, he's presenting a manuscript of his book to Yale baseball captain George H.W. Bush, 40 years before Bush would become President. WOW, way to go H.W. I wonder what connection he had with the book? Did H.W. have something to do with its publishing or was he the Yale representative who simply accepted the manuscript for the Yale library or something like that?

Thanks. As I remember, the only "drugs" The Babe was into were his stogies.

The Babe was the best. He would've made the Hall of Fame without swinging a bat. For the first quarter of his career, he and Walter Johnson were the league's dominant pitchers.
Baseball should insert the asterik back into the single season homerun record of Roger Maris. Only this time, it should note Maris was the last player to break the Babe's vaunted single season record without suspicion of using performance enhancing drugs.

I lost an arguement with a friend of mine on that Candy Bar and how it got it's name.
I'm not saying you're wrong about it being named for the"Bambino".
But I was when I said it. :>0

Longer seasons, a more lively ball ,and now steroids helped break the "Babes" record.
I believe the "Babe" did use alcohol a bit.

Any moderately talented knucklehead can have a great career on the juice. Anybody who can have a Hall of Fame career with a training table of booze, steak, cigars and showgirls deserves a lot of respect.

Baby Ruth was named after a President's daughter, not Babe Ruth.
I want to say it was Grover Cleveland's daughter, but I could be wrong. It wasn't da Babe though.
First candy bar named after a baseball player was actually the "Reggie" bar.

The Babe Ruth candy bar was not named after the baseball player. It was named after a little tyke named Ruth.
To: Pompah
Was your friend going for the story that it was named after Grover Cleveland's niece? If so, check
here for the scoop. It sounds like that story was invented to get out of paying royalties to the Bambino.
Maybe you better go back to your friend and let him know who really won that bet :-p

Check my post 11. That was an urban legend, apparently made up to get out of paying royalties.

That could be true.
I know Nike created shoes called "the oregon" and "the washington" first, and then "the montana". Joe Montana sued their asses.

The Babe made a name for himself here in Chicago for having beers during the game at McCuddy's across the street from the old ball park in his day.

So okay...you're nothing but a spoilsport.:)
Seriously. Thank you for clearing that up...I think.

It was Ruth Cleveland, born in 1891, during the interval between Cleveland's two terms. The Clevelands returned to the White House in 1893 and Ruth was called Baby Ruth in the press. She died of diphtheria in 1904 at the age of 12, while her father was still alive.
