VATICAN CITY -- A cardinal who stood in for Pope John Paul II in a Holy Week ceremony at the Vatican said the ailing pontiff was "serenely abandoning" himself to God's will.
Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re said the 84-year-old pontiff linked his own suffering to that of Jesus Christ.
John Paul's words were being seen as poignant by the Roman Catholic faithful because this year is the first in his papacy he has missed services leading up to Easter this Sunday.

??? I expect each and every decent person in the clergy has abandoned him/herself to God's will, or at least tried to.
Submission to God's will is always the way to go.
"serenely abandoning"
Declining futher medical interventions?
I think it's just a figure of speech. It's like saying "The Pope believes in God's will"--that doesn't mean he's JUST started that, it just clarifies it for the MSM consumption.
Does this mean he is not going to eat anymore?
What he means is that the pope is no longer fighting his death.
Prayers for the Holy Father.
With all deference to my Catholic friends, I can find nor grasp any association whatsoever with the Pontiff dying in comfortable surroundngs with that of the betrayal, and brutal crucifixion of Jesus Christ, the Son of Man, the sinless spotless lamb!
Huh?
No more hospital visits no more meds no intervention.
That's kind of what I was thinking. I just assumed that was a given.
It is simply the Vatican's way of saying that it appears that he is about to die.
He'll hang on for Easter, then he'll let go.
Come on..
May God bless this Holy Man.
I read the article and disagree. I think that's what the reporter wants us to think.
Better God's Will
Than That Of US Judical System.
There have been other articles on this. They stressed that the comment was meant in a spiritual sense rather than a physical health sense.
