Let me guess. He was going to ship the asbestos to Al-Qaeda so that it could build dirty bombs.

This is the DC school system, a bottomless pit of spending and failure. I would doubt they even checked for a Federal record or that it would make a difference anyway.

Ping.

This might be of interest. The arrested man was probably supporting terrorism in Bosnia, Kosovo, Chechnya, Somalia and other places (information behind the link).

...A former high-level D.C. schools official has been charged with plotting global terrorist acts while also struggling to renovate classrooms and rid city schools of asbestos. Kifah Waed Jayyousi, the former facilities director for D.C. public schools, was ordered held in Detroit yesterday after he was arrested for providing material support to terrorists and plotting acts of terrorism outside the United States......

......wasn't that 'school' in Russia renovated by immigrant terrorist repairmen/women?

......this has NOTHING to do with the WHOLE (hole)...'INS'...System...../sarcasm

......this article should read:

......U.S.A. Schools INSIDE/OUTSIDE......D.C.,......etc.,.....watch you children's '6'.....

......walls of 'plastic'????

Here's a revelation: How about if a person has a name like "Kifah Waed Jayyousi", they get checked out a LITTLE more, or maybe even sent packing?

Oh, that's right. We might offend the muslims who want us dead.

So it seems likely that terrorist groups have floor plans of every school in the DC system. Great.

Background checks are usually limited to a searc of local and perhaps state criminal records. They are rarely national in scope.

The dichotomy in this sentence is stunning - He might have been supporting terrorists, but was also struggling to abate asbestos and renovate classrooms for the chiiiiilllldrennnnnnnn. Un-freaking-real!

"A former public schools official, accused of conspiring with a Florida man in the 1990s to raise money and recruit Muslim extremists to fight in Bosnia, Kosovo, Chechnya and Somalia...."

AP report

Ex-School Official Said Tied to Terrorism
Thu Mar 31,12:11 AM ET

DETROIT - A former public schools official, accused of conspiring with a Florida man in the 1990s to raise money and recruit Muslim extremists to fight in Bosnia, Kosovo, Chechnya and Somalia, was ordered held Wednesday to face federal terrorism charges.

A criminal complaint issued in December and unsealed Monday in Miami charges Kifah Wael Jayyousi, 43, formerly of Detroit, and Kassem Daher, of Broward County, Fla., with conspiring to provide material support and resources for terrorism, and with conspiracy to kill, kidnap, maim or injure people or damage property in a foreign country.

Jayyousi appealed the order that he be held, and a hearing was set for Thursday, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Attorney's office said.

Jayyousi's lawyer, William Swor, told the court that the charges are bogus and that Jayyousi should be freed. He said Jayyousi was on sabbatical as a civil engineer and adjunct engineering professor at Wayne State University in Detroit.

Authorities said Jayyousi, a former Detroit Public Schools assistant superintendent, was arrested Sunday at Detroit Metro Airport after arriving from Amsterdam. U.S. Customs agents detained him after a routine computer check showed he was wanted on a federal warrant out of Miami.

Prosecutors have requested that he be sent to Miami.

Conspiring to provide material support and resources for terrorism carries a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. The other charge carries a maximum penalty of 35 years to life in prison.

Daher is a fugitive living in Lebanon, the Detroit Free Press reported.

Jayyousi left Detroit Public Schools in 1999. A court affidavit signed by an FBI agent said he moved to Egypt in 2003.

It is not surprising that this has happened. Detroit has the highest number of Muslims in this country, thanks to former Senator Spencer Abraham (a Lebanese Orthodox Christian).

Abraham stated in his relection bid that if he were to win, he would increase the quota for Muslims to come to this country.

Fortunately, he lost his bid.

We should also remember that one of the main terrorists in the Madrid bombing was born in Bosnia.

Because of Clinton's flawed foreign policy in supporting the Bosnian Muslim government of Alija Izetbegovic, Bosnia has become Osama bin Laden's corridor into Europe.

For the record, in 1992, the Bosnian Muslim government of Izetbegovic issued a passport to Osama bin Laden at their Vienna embassy whereby he visited Bosnia and Kosovo on several different occasions.
