A terror attack was prevented today at a checkpoint outside Shechem at the same time as security forces revealed the prevention of a massive multi-pronged attack between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv.

Two PA Arabs tried to pass through a roadblock southwest of Shechem, near Har Gerizim this afternoon. One looked suspicious and was spotted with a pipe bomb. The soldiers isolated the terrorist and searched him, finding two more bombs on his person.

The second terrorist then tried to stab one of the soldiers with a knife. He was subdued and the explosives detonated in a controlled manner by IDF sappers.

It was released for publication today that an Arab terror cell was nabbed while planning a triple bomb attack at the Latrun junction on the main highway from Jerusalem to Tel Aviv. The terrorists planned to use a car-bomb and two suicide-bombers to carry out the attack, which was to target drivers, as well as the IDF Armored Corps Museum at Latrun.

One of the terrorists was employed in the Latrun area previously.

The cell also planned on attacking an IDF jeep in the Ramallah region, killing the soldiers and kidnapping their bodies for use as bargaining chips with Israel in order to win the release of terrorists.

The three terrorists, members of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine were arrested on January 9th, the day of the PA elections, but details of the arrest were suppressed until now. They were taking orders from Bashar Hanani, a PFLP terror chief in Ramallah.

Another Hamas terrorist, this one an Arab man with Israeli citizenship, was also arrested by the GSS (General Security Service) in recent days. Ashraf Dahiya, from the Old City of Jerusalem, admitted to being recruited by Hamas handlers while visiting Gaza, and was trained to carry out terror attacks inside Israel’s pre-1967 borders. He reportedly tried to convince a relative of his to become a suicide bomber, but was turned down.
