Todays democratic party is far removed from Hubert Humprey's democratic party - except for the socialism part.
At the risk of running some more Freepers to the Smokey Backroom, I heartily agree with Fred Barnes, and love the article---
He and Mort have almost come to blows over this sujbect...lol
Fred Barnes does a great job of removing the camo off of the Rat party in this oped.
When I saw the title, I was expecting a picture of Fred Barnes with a lampshade on his head.8^)
This should be thrown in the faces of the life-hating uncompassionate Dems loudly and often!
Democrats have morphed to limiting their "do-gooder" deeds, for homosexuals, blacks, public employee union members, reservation indians, etc. Oh. I missed the universities and the media.
Republicans have become another category of "do-gooders."
"Do good," towards reoredering the international arrangements of nations, for national security and/or trade ends. You are either with us, or against us. Fight terrorism with democracy.
"Do good," at the behest of the Christian faith activists and advocates. Oppose abortion, drugs, gay mariage, gay preachers, public school indoctrination/mediocrity, etc.
Overall, Barnes penned an excellent piece.
Democrats almost uniformly cling to "government" for solutions, even with powerful evidence of its failures. United Nations, Social Security, public education, etc.
Republicans are capable of new ideas and paradigms, based on changing times, circumstances.
Democrats frozen in time, with old ideas.
More correctly, Democrats do take up moral issues, they just take up the immoral side of them.
Very well put.
