Former President Bill Clinton wasn't about to let just anybody attack his wife - especially a gay Republican operative. Clinton fired back yesterday, suggesting that political consultant Arthur Finkelstein, who has launched a "Stop Her Now" campaign, is suffering from "self-loathing."
Finkelstein married his male partner in a civil ceremony in Massachusetts in December, with a few of his conservative clients at the nuptial.
"... He went to Massachusetts and married his longtime male partner and then he comes back here and announces this," Clinton said at a Harlem news conference.
"I thought, one of two things. Either this guy believes his party is not serious, and is totally Machiavellian in his position, or there's some sort of self-loathing there. I was more sad for him."
His decision to bring up Finkelstein's sexuality hearkened back to a similar remark made by John Kerry in an Oct. 13, 2004, presidential debate.
In responding to a question whether homosexuality was a matter of choice, Kerry said, "I think if you were to talk to Dick Cheney's daughter, who is a lesbian, she would tell you that she's being who she was, she's being who she was born as."
Finkelstein did not return calls for comment.
Republicans believe that if Hillary Clinton can be defeated in her Senate reelection efforts in 2006, it would kill her chances of running for the presidency in 2008.
Her husband appeared in Harlem to announce a $10 million initiative aimed at eradicating HIV/AIDS among children in Africa.
Too bad nobody ever instilled a healthy sense of self-loathing in the former First Scumbag.
There is nothing quite as ironic as a prominent Democrat attacking someone's homosexuality.
Clinton calling somebody "Machiavellian?" Hilarious. Also, I thought people's private lives were not up for discussion. At least that's what he claimed when this Esquire photo came out.
Monica's view
Uh, maybe it's "Hillary loathing." Lot of that going around...
It looks like I have been wrong. Given the chance to redeem his legacy or promote his witch of a wife for POTUS, he has become the point man and Hillary attack dog.
This gay outing/bashing didn't work for Kerry. It won't work for the Clintons either.
They are out there now trashing gays and gay marriage, but who is going to believe them. All they will do is alienate part of their hard core base.
Anti-gay, anti-abortion Hillary is a figment of Bubba's very sick imagination.
1992/96 slash and burn politics will not work in 2005. The issues are too complex and the stakes are too high
Breck-Girl Edwards also brought up Mary Cheney during the Vice-Presidential debate. In both instances Mary's lesbianism was pulled right out of the blue. Everyone with a head on their shoulders knew this was to gratuitously remind the Christian Red-state NASCAR (etc.) voters of the fact (in case they didn't know already) that she was lesbian. All good, lib-dem gays gave them a pass because quite a few of them were already involved in the organized harrassment campaign against her (DearMary.com) to excoriate her for her loyalty to her father.
It's just the good old liberal double-standard, just like the treatment meted out to Condi Rice, Clarence Thomas, etc. Dems have wielded gay innuendo with the best of them. Remember the rumours being daily faxed to the MSM about members of Ken Starr's impeachment team and the impeachment managers staffers during The Year of Monica?
In any event, since Bill loathes himself inadequately, we can make up for that by being generous in our loathing of him. As one Freeper wrote months ago, "I despised him then. I despise him now. I will despise him until he dies. And then I will despise his memory."

More rumblings from an insignificant President. Pay him no mind.
Sociopaths are immune to guilt or embarrassment. It's that simple.
If there's anyone who should know about self-loathing, it's Billy.
Who says he hasn't got that?
pro·jec·tion Definition 8. Psychology.
1. The attribution of one's own attitudes, feelings, or suppositions to others: Even trained anthropologists have been guilty of unconscious projectionof clothing the subjects of their research in theories brought with them into the field (Alex Shoumatoff).
2. The attribution of one's own attitudes, feelings, or desires to someone or something as a naive or unconscious defense against anxiety or guilt.
Rush was hilarious today regarding this article. He even did that Clinton voice with a pansie slant - left coffee sprayed on the dashboard.
Yes, Bill, no Republican could possibly be openly gay, let alone oppose the prospect of a Hillary! presidency. O Yes! For you see, on Planet Clinton, all gays (and blacks, etc., etc.) who are NOT "self-loathing" know their place and Vote Democrat.
Does anyone here realize that the Gay GOP operative that Clinton is ripping, is now married, and opposed to the wife on the man who signed DOMA.
Anyway, I think you insult and disrespect your wife with your constant and very public lecherous womanizing.
And, you want to talk about "self-loathing"?
Sir, you are not in any position to discuss marriage.
