Hedgetrimmer, I think that the entire concept behind the EU, building a kind of European superpower, means loss of sovereignty for the European states. How could it be otherwise if they are to share a constitution - a socialist one, I might add.
However, once the constitution is in effect, and sovereignty lost, free trade between European states would be analogous to free trade between our American states. The free market, in other words. I think you have the cart before the horse.
OTOH, the free market is not part of socialist doctrine, I'm not expecting to see it in the EU, loss of sovereignty or no. Also, I'm kind of skeptical of them pulling it off, European history, with centuries of war and bloodshed, is against it. Not to mention the recent appearance in Europe of countries just freed from socialism, the countries behind the iron curtain.
