Rice Prods U.S. Senate on Bolton Nomination

CRAWFORD, Texas (Reuters) - Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said on Monday the White House has been responsive to senators' concerns about John Bolton, the embattled nominee for U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, and prodded the Senate to move forward on his nomination.

"We understand the deliberative processes of the Senate. And we've tried to be as responsive as possible to all of the questions that have been asked," Rice said. "But I would really hope now that people will move forward on John Bolton's nomination."

Rice was in Crawford, Texas for a meeting between President Bush and Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Abdullah.

Bolton's nomination ran into trouble over allegations that he tried to bully intelligence analysts to tailor their work to suit his hard-line political views and that he was abusive to junior officials.

The White House defended Bolton, saying the allegations about Bolton him were trumped up by Democrats.

Rice said she and Bush both had confidence in Bolton and believed he could provide a "strong voice" for reform at the United Nations.

However, four Republicans on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee have asked for more time to review Bolton's record before voting on his nomination.

Republican Sens. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Lincoln Chafee of Rhode Island, Chuck Hagel of Nebraska, and George Voinovich of Ohio all decided that the accusations against Bolton merited further examination.

If all eight Democrats on the committee vote against Bolton, as expected, just one Republican vote opposing him would be enough to block the nomination.

Rice shouldn't be prodding the members of the Senate, she should be beating them over the heads with a sharp stick.

Imagine the field day we'll have when it comes time to apply the same standard to Hillary.

Oh, I'm sure no democrat ever tried to bully intelligence analysts to suit their political views or was abusive to
junior oficials...

IMHO, it is time for the senators to quit living off the American people and go get REAL jobs in the REAL world.

Superiors yell, put their hands on their hips in frustration, administer "the stare", threaten and sometimes even put an employee on probation. It is all in a days work.

To the US Senate - GET A LIFE and GET A REAL JOB.

"The White House defended Bolton, saying the allegations about Bolton him were trumped up by Democrats."

Oh, come on now. All of the claims against Bolton come from people who can ONLY be telling the truth. After all, they have this credibility gene!

Seers, repressed memory experts(?), certified democrat activists. Sounds good to me.

That might be true -- except for one problem .. Hillary is a DUMBOCRAT and they are never held to the same standards !! HRH Hillary will skate thru the nomination process and prepare for her coronation without any semi-tough examination by the MSM of her "record", misdeeds, vulgarity, racism, anti-semetism etc etc etc. The shills will celebrate along with the other sheeple!

People said that about Kerry and he lost, even though Democrats cried fraud in various places.

"...but what the h#!! is Murkowski's problem now?!"

A distinct lack of the intellectual firepower required to carry out the duties of a U.S. Senator.
