FORT BRAGG, N.C. -- Sgt. Hasan Akbar was sentenced to die Thursday night for a grenade and rifle attack that killed Army Capt. Christopher Scott Seifert and an Air Force officer and wounded 14 others.

Helen Seifert, of Williams Township, began to weep as she watched the man who killed her son chained and led away from the courtroom.

Earlier Thursday, Akbar told jurors, in an almost inaudible statement, he was sorry for what he had done.
I doubt he is sorry. Another example of Muslim who is selfish and corrupt. I think we should carry this sentence out ASAP, and in the most inhumane way possible.

Its a long way from getting the death sentence and having it carried out. If anyone deserves it this guy does. I wish him a short stay while awaiting execution.

PS---- and please no more seeing this SOB in an American uniform. He doesnt deserve to be allowed to wear it.

Does the military system allow so many appeals? Or will this guy live like 35 yrs until he is then considered mentally incompetent to have the death penalty carried out?

I will be very disappointed and disgusted if the sentence is not carried out. There is no place left on earth for this guy and I think he knows it too. The absolute pathology of that much hate makes him too dangerous to even breath the same air that the rest of us do. Yes, death for him.

I agree, but do they have to keep him as active member of the military until he is executed? If they give him a dishonorable discharge can they still hold him and execute him?

Certainly the Military system has appeals and I am sure this guy will file one. How many? and how long will they take? Better ask someone else ,I sure dont know.I hope not too many and not too long, This should be done while its fresh in everyones mind.

Hopefully the military courts will carry out the sentence expeditiously.

Tie his hands and feet with wire and throw him in the hog pen to be devoured alive with his favorite TV news channel filming for the Muslim world.

Why didn't he ask to be excused from duty in Iraq, declare himself a pacifist? Because in his heart he'd decided as a Muslim he had a duty to kill nonbelievers -- which is exactly what he did. He's just sorry he got caught.

Not sure about how many are allowable, but from the thread last evening:

Convicted "him of two counts of premeditated murder and three counts of attempted premeditated murder."

"The sentence will be the subject of an automatic appeal. If Akbar is executed, it would be by lethal injection."

Number of Executions - 135 people have been executed by the Army since 1916 (Source: National Law Journal, 4/5/99)

Date of last military execution - On April 13, 1961, U.S. Army Private John A. Bennett was hanged after being convicted of rape and attempted murder. (R. Serrano, "Last Soldier to Die at Levenworth Hanged in an April Storm," Los Angeles Times, 7/12/94).

Conversely, Democratic senator Ted Kennedy was seen donning a black armband.

The usual time on a military death row is 2 years, and yes they are dishonorably discharged at the time of convection. He will no longer get to wear the uniform of the military, but a bright orange jumpsuit. My only wish is that they would use traditional form of execution instead of the lethal injection! A firring squad & or hanging would be very aproiat!

I thought this story was going to be about Admiral Akbar. I thought it strange that the fish dude who helped Lando destroy the second Death Star during the battle of Endor got the death penality.

It is a mystery to me how this guy made it into the Army, not to mention how he got to be a sergeant.
