NEW YORK -- Secular humanists and leftist activists convened here over the weekend to strategize how to counter what they contend is a growing political threat from Christian conservatives.

Understanding and answering the "religious far right" that propelled President Bush's re-election is key to preventing a "theocracy" from governing the nation, speakers argued at a weekend conference.

The clueless trying to understand is like questioning if there's a rock to big for God to lift!

There's even a book that one can read to see what the "religious far right" believes in, or so I'm told.

However, I think that few of the people at this conference have ever touched it, let alone read it. Perhaps they fear that they will burst into flames if they make contact with it.

One of the central problems facing the left is in creating its own hysteria through its habitual manipulation and distortion of facts. It both inflates an issue that it defines as a dire problem and then inflates its own sense of importance in rectifying the alleged problem. Like its elder brother, communism, it deals largely in fictions.

That there are tens of millions of concerned conservative voters in the United States is a fact. That these people (and I include myself among them) are creating some form of "theocracy" is a delusion. There are substantial issues of agreement among us, but also some areas of strong disagreement especially related to our various religious interpretations. The underlying feature is that we are all orthodox--in one form or another--Judeo-Christians. Given the strong and growing support of orthodox Jews, I include them in our reputed nascent theocracy. As such, we hold strong moral values in common and oppose a mindless, relativistic interpretation of man and our relationship to the Lord.

The left, on the other hand, has a cheap version of a tried and failed socialist doctrine that where applied leads actually to its opposite--repression and death. It can garner no strong support from people with religious values, because it lacks both positive values and religion.
Though I suppose that repressive government control and tepid adherence to scripture could be loosely called values.

The open society of the left leads ultimately into the old Kremlin. The conservative, free society leads to personal responsibility, stronger families, and voluntary associations of people for the common good. If the latter is theocracy, then I'm all for it.

Oh no! Its that dreaded God Talk again! If our Lefty friends hear the G-word one more time, its a sign the public square hasn't been purged of those wanna-be theocrats yet.

Secular humanists are narrow minded and intolerant.

They accept themselves, Unitarians, and any group that hates Christians. Beyond that little world, they fear what they don't understand. And that fear breeds prejudice and hatred. It's a group to be pitied and helped.

"Allah" doesn't mean god though, it's the NAME of a black rock god.
They like the Islamic "Allah' god, he kills Christians and Jews, Hindu's and Buddists. They haven't figured out that he also orders atheists and fags killed too.

That's where you and I differ. I want the "hate America" crowd humiliated and smashed (politically) out of existance. We need a two party system in our country but they aren't one of them.

Right leaning and farther right leaning parties are what we need, then we can debate among ourselves the best ways to implement conservative policy, such as less government, lower taxes, strong national defence, secure borders, adherence to the constitution and ALL it's amendments.

>>The left, on the other hand, has a cheap version of a tried and failed socialist doctrine that where applied leads actually to its opposite--repression and death. It can garner no strong support from people with religious values, because it lacks both positive values and religion.<<

Sitting here this morning watching the old television version of Steinbeck's The Grapes of Wrath and am reminded that the Great Depression may have had much to do with so many Americans jumping on the leftists' hay wagon. Many Americans during the 1930s had a deep abiding faith in God but were led astray by leftist political agendas which then hid its hatred of religion in order to draw new members. In the old socialist movie, the producer was forced to deal with the Joad family's minimal religious faith until such time as he could supplant it with FDR's Farm Security Administration Camp program at the end. As our nation has grown more secular, leftists no longer have to disguise their hatred of religion to draw membership. They are now more free to directly attack religion in society and a new remake of the old depressing Steinbeck movie could deal from its onset with government as society's savior.

And once again I say - there can be no Christian theocracy until The Christ reigns on earth. It's a silly discussion these Leftists like to have, without any understanding. Besides, who told them to fear the coming wrath, anyway?

Again, there is no "black rock". That's the CURTAIN. It is raised when the pilgrims come (once a year) and folks move around it in a circle.

The actual ancient structure is made up of fossilized wood and a moderate sized stone meteorite.

It looks like the sort of altar where you would make a burnt offering. Moslem belief is that this is where Father Abraham was going to sacrifice Ishmael.

Allah is, in fact, God's Own name in Arbic. The Syrian and Chaldean Christian churches use that name in their Arabic translations of the Bible.

If you are going to attack Islam and Moslems, please do so from a basis of rationality and fact. It does you no good to upset archaeologists and Arabic speaking Christians, particularly those Christians who've been fending off the Moslems for the last 1400 years!

"The Democrats, right or wrong, see their country being torn away from them, and see guys like Bush as evil incarnate, essentially. They see the Religious Right being a big bad group of guys who are going to force the bible down everyones throats, create fascism, and attack alot of other countries. So clearly, both sides are widely incorrect in their assessment of each other. We Democrats don't support the enemy, we don't want to persecute anyone, we simply see a dangerous shift of power, and generally, don't trust most Republicans with the checks and balances. Right or wrong, that's simply the other sides views. Throwing around obscenities helps no one, solves nothing, and gets across no points. If I offended anyone I'm sorry, I've been reading quite a bit of this site and found it extremely interesting, and found myself agreeing more than I'd thought I would. Just thought I'd chime in."

The shift in power you see is the pendulum swinging back toward the center, away from an all powerful Federal government and away from the tyranny of the judiciary.

As far as "not listening to the other side", well, you guys had a 40 year plus run of near complete control of the Federal government. Your welfare state has destroyed the inner city and the minority family. Our protestations were labeled bigoted and racist.

And how is the West's (I.E. the United States) "violent regligous extremism much more civil, but grander and more blind? We have no intention of world domination. We accept other faiths and peaceful acts. We do not hold our women in chains and perform clitorectomies. The blindness is from those on the Left that refuse to accept that there is such a thing as morality.

I appreciate your civility.

I have been screaming about this for a while now. Somewhere in the belly of the beast known as the DNC they held a meeting of the minds (as if) and came up with an old idea. Start pinning the Republican Party to the religious right. They believe strongly that one of the major reasons they lost in 2000, 2002, and 2004 is that they never tried to make the case that the Republican party is run by religious zealots. Hence the newest trend in the MSM of using the word "evangelicals" all over the place. Its the new "gravitas".

To the left the word "evangelicals" conjures up images of Bible thumping charlatans. They think the word has the same effect on the masses.

Note the huge deal the MSM made out of Delay video being played at Church's last Sunday.

Its only just begun.
