SAUSALITO, Calif. - A local woman's "missile art" has bombed so badly with an exhibit manager that she has reluctantly agreed to remove the work.
Artist Dixie Brown of Kentfield agreed to removed her nine realistic-looking "missiles" made of gray and black lamb's wool from the Fiber Dimension exhibit at Sausalito's Bay Model facility, which is operated by the Army Corps of Engineers.
Other exhibits also depict war images, but Brown's are particularly striking because they hang from the ceiling.
Facility manager Chris Gallagher asked Brown to take the woolen missiles away before an officer's retirement party next week.
"They would be hanging from the ceiling in the middle of the reception," said Gallagher. "What would the officers think if they looked up and saw these bombs coming down on them?"
Brown said the move smacks of censorship.
"I will comply, but under protest," she said. "My pieces do not to tell people what they should think, but they are meant to raise questions and promote interpretation and reaction."
She said Gallagher "is making it impossible for others to come to their own conclusion and that is troublesome."
Gallagher said four other of Brown's bombs in another section of the facility will remain.

Uh.... if they're made of wool, how can they look realistic???
If only she had made them out to look like Christ in a jar of urine, it could have stayed up. Shoot, probably would have won awards.
Jeez.. If these are "realistic", I've got a "realistic" million dollars from a Monopoly game that they'd be interested in.
Seems to have a thing for wooly, missle-shaped objects.
what... the... [expletive]?
oh. nevermind. I misread your post.
Exactly,, LOL
Exhibition Bombs at Sausalito Fiber Display
The artist amongst her dil***'s....seems a more appropriate title....
The reaction was "get rid of them". ;-)
That is such a perfect picture!
LOL, what a funny story and comments.
It is funny, nothing wrong with a few missiles laying around... Wish i had some to wash and wax :)
Xcelent photo!
Well, you got it lady! We don't like 'em!
Heck, decorate the whole darn place with woolly military gear. They are, after all. . . MILITARY folks!
