That position would be easier to defend. But as can be seen, defensibility is not a consideration for crafting legislation.
BTW, in Florida, a minor may not be required to obtain consent for an abortion (not from a parent, and not from a court either), and cannot be required to inform a parent. 13 year olds can go to the clinic and get an abortion with less hassle than many 18 year olds have buying a pack of smokes.

And we wonder why our kids and young adults are so royally screwed up. WE keep telling them they are adults when they are really children, and we keep treating them like children when they are really adults.
