I doubt Powell is going to get involved in this.

His deputy speaking alone, shows a different side.

Powell's not a bad guy, but he gets rolled more than dice in Las Vegas.

His opinion will be noted and overruled. Again.

Lugar's fault. Bolton should have already been out of committee and confirmed.

When oh when is the Foreign Relations committee going to meet again? Are they waiting for Voinovich to finish his homework?

No wonder Powell was so chummy with the scumbag State Department. He had four years to sweep out the communist mice and didn't do squat. I sure hope Rice gets it done.

Regarding why Powell might oppose Bolton's nomination, DeWeese said the two men approach the issue of national security "from two completely different directions. Powell wants to 'play footsie' with all the diplomats at the U.N., and Bolton wants to state the American position and carry that out.

Playing "footsie" is what being a diplomat is all about and little gets accomplished but the diplomats are still invited to the parties and spoken of nicely in the NYT or the New Yorker...that is what diplomacy has been about...up till now.

John Bolton will protect America's interest at the United Nations, rather than keep a dance card. We need John Bolton! Call your Senators now and insist they elect this man and not a party boy!
