U.S. Believes Syria Supporting Terrorists

United States military officials have said it is increasingly believed in the Pentagon that the Syrian regime is assisting insurgents on the Syrian-Iraqi border. The Pentagon has not gone public with this assumption for lack of conclusive evidence.

However, leaks suggest they believe there are mounting signs that Syria is offering logistical support to armed men on the border, facilitating their passage into Iraq, supplying them with arms and allowing them to return for fresh supplies.

The U.S. Army has been involved in bloody clashes with terrorists on the Syrian border in northwestern Iraq since last week. The fighting started to die down on Tuesday.

More than 100 insurgents have been killed since the fighting began. Three marines were killed and fewer than 20 wounded in the fighting, U.S. military officials said.

Carpet bomb the Syrian-Iraqi border region WITHIN Syria. We'll see how long the support of those terrorists continue. And if it does, then the B-52s next appearance will be over Damascus. Enough of this crap.

If true we can't fight another Vietnam with the enemy operating from safe sanctuary. On thing is clear, the terrorists have switched tactics to suicide and car bombings, ala those used against Israel and other targets for years. No point in sitting there and taking it, the two main sources of trouble border Iraq. If syria and Iran are dealt with there is no other clear state backed terror regime in the region.

I doubt we could get support from any country, if we decided to invade Syria.

we don't have to invade. just make sure the mafiosos in power there realize we mean to hurt their interests, not occupy their useless sandtrap. We could take out their economy in a couple of hours, if I guess correctly.

The support we ultimately need is the US Armed Forces and we have that. Syria would be a mess because it is a mess, but we either are committed to the war on terror or we aren't. IMHO Syria will back down with the threat of an invasion. Iran is another issue.

I doubt we do too much to Syria until policy on Iran is completed.but I do believe Syria will get theirs in time, they are just pissy because they were forced to leave
Lebanon and they prefer to do their dirty work like all terrorists by sneak attack because they know open warfare with the united States military is basic suicide

Why are we using the same tactics we used in Nam? Hello Mr. Bush, wake up. Syria is a sanctuary just like Cambodia and Iran is one just like Laos. Our Marines should being attacking deep in Syria not reacting to the enemy in Iraq. Every time there is an attack on US Forces in Iraq there should be one less town in Syria, and one less nuclear project in Iran.

The Syrians have probably moved their agents from Lebanon to the Iraqi border.
