BOGOTA (AP) - Rival fans clashed at a domestic soccer match in the Colombian capital late Wednesday, killing one person and wounding 23.

Edison Andres Garzon died of injuries sustained during the riots that erupted after America de Cali defeated Santa Fe 5-2 in a Colombian first division game, firefighters said.

Garzon, 20, was struck in the head and his body thrown over a balcony in Bogota's El Campin stadium, Garzon's cousin, Andrea Hernandez, told local radio.

Most of the wounded were treated on the spot.

The violence started when up to 100 Santa Fe fans angry over the referee's calls during the match broke down two security doors and rushed onto the field before being stopped by police wielding batons.

Coincidentally, the riot started when a fan threw a cup of water at Ron Artest.

What is it about that sport that makes everyone nuts? I have two theories: 1. It is the only national sport, they do not have football, basketball, baseball and a million BS sports to watch. 2. The intensity of the match, in baseball you can sit for four hours with no action, in football, you can watch for 3.5 hours and only have to pay attention when one team is putting a drive together and even then you get 5 seconds of action and 45 seconds to catch your breath (which hardly makes it breathless). I have always enjoyed soccer and having married a European 7 years ago have really gotten into "futball" and having been a baseball and football nut (I saw Tom Landry when he had hair) neither of those come close to the excitement of soccer. IMHO

When a visiting English team played an exhibition match in Vancouver a friend of mine (who was a security guard) pulled an English fan from the crowd for peeing on Canadian fans below him in the bleachers.

While they were detaining him in the security office who shows up loudly complaining about the kid being detained?

His mother.

The kid pees on fans while he's standing next to his mother.

That's the kinda nuts I'm talkin about.

That and murdering someone by throwing them off a balcony.

I would have guessed from the title, Fan dies at Colombian soccer match , that the fan was simply bored to death.

Hi All-

In a departure from plain-vanilla content, AOL actually shows the murder being committed when they toss the young man over the balcony. Detailed color photographs were taken, so it probably won't be too difficult to catch the maniacs who committed the crime.
