Passed by the Texas House of Representatives, a bill that bans high school cheerleaders from performing "sexually suggestive" routines -- effectively taking the "hip" out of "hip-hip-hooray". Bill author Al Edwards, a Democrat from Houston, said that "we see that as a result [of lewd routines] more of our young girls being pregnant in middle and high schools, dropping out of school, having babies, and having AIDS and herpes." The bill, which doesn't define what constitutes sexually suggestive behavior, was mocked by several legislators. One said it was "stupid" and "insulting" that the issue was even being discussed, and others bought pom-poms to the vote. But it passed by a 65-56 margin. If the measure passes the senate, Gov. Rick Perry is expected to sign it into law.
TOPICS: Government; US: Texas
KEYWORDS: insulting; slownewsday; stupidity
Anybody know how many Republicans in the TX house support this abomination?

Bill author Al Edwards, a Democrat .. Shouldn't they just put in a large tax(fee) for each performance?

If this joker thinks cheerleading causes pregnancy, I'd suggest a crash course in basic biology is what he needs!

You've been here as long as I have, Mom, and you're still screwing up the HTML.
There are NO sponsors for this bill in the Texas Senate. It likely won't be brought to a vote.

Ya, but the point is that Texas has more than its share of GOP kooks in office it seems. At least they seem like kooks through the prism of left coast eyes.

Why are you here complaining about a bill written by a Democrat?
You used to be more subtle than that.

They pass this and they killed the Parental Consent Bill on YAPOO(yet another point of order). I think we should just shut the whole session down before they shove a psuedo income tax down our throats. Turn out the lights and send the Rats and Rinos home now, please.

Can't believe JimRob is still letting you post after 7 years, especially during FR's infancy when Jim was trying to give his site publicity and credibility.
