Elderly Woman Attacked in Mall Parking Lot
By Lindy Thackston First Coast News
ORANGE PARK, FL -- It happened in broad daylight in the parking lot outside the Orange Park Mall.
A 79-year old woman was attacked on her way back to her car.
"She was thrown to the ground and received some lacerations to her head and to her arm, and a shoulder injury," said Lt. Tony Dangerfield.
Lt. Dangerfield was one of the first on the scene, and said after the suspect threw the elderly woman on the ground, he stole her belongings.
At Orange Park Mall, there have been four attacks since January. Police said each case has been solved thanks to attentive witnesses.
"Try to remember as much as you can about the suspect or the vehicle they fled in so that we can get on it while the irons hot," said Lt. Dangerfield.
If someone tries to steal your purse, wallet, or shopping bags, police say you should let it go.
"We can replace your purse, we can replace your belongings, but it's not worth ending up in the hospital or hurt," said Lt. Dangerfield.
Police say you shouldn't be on your cell phone when walking to your car, because you won't be paying as much attention to your surroundings.
Witnesses describe the suspect as a young man with short dreadlocks, about five-foot, six inches and 150 pounds. He was wearing a blue or gray pullover, red and gray plaid pajama pants, and flip-flops.

Blonde dreadlocks, of course. Otherwise they would have given a full description.
Lots of reports of similar events in southern California mall parking lots. Always young thugs preying on old people. By the time the police get there the thugs are long-gone.
