NBC's "Today Show" aired unsubstantiated claims on Tuesday that U.S. troops had desecrated the Koran on at least two occasions, in a report that echoed a now retracted Newsweek story that has inflamed the Muslim world and led to deadly riots.
The "Today Show" broadcast also covered an allegation that U.S. troops had gang raped an Iraqi woman.
Commenting on the impact of Newsweek's blunder, NBC Middle East correspondent Richard Engel said the magazine's Koran desecration story was just one of several circulating throughout Iraq. "There's one rumor spreading today in local newspapers," Engel said. "It's been on the local television and it was also broadcast on the al Jazeera television network. It's that U.S. Marines, while raiding a mosque in Ramadi, kicked a Koran and then took it and spray painted in black paint a cross right on top of the Koran."
Engel said another rumor "came out a couple of weeks ago [and] was in a local newspaper.
"It said that during a search of a woman's bag, U.S. soldiers with a team of dogs were sniffing through her bag. She had a Koran in her bag. The dog pulled the Muslim holy book out of the bag with its mouth and that the soldiers started laughing."
The NBC newsman then sourced an allegation by a female terrorist suspect who had been detained at Abu Ghraib, who aired her claim in an Iraqi newspaper.
"[She said] she was raped every night by six American soldiers," Engel reported, before adding that U.S. officials deny the claim.
Syndicated talk radio host Laura Ingraham, who aired portions of Engel's report on her broadcast Tuesday night, was outraged, telling her audience: "We have an NBC reporter repeating rumors that are clearly being spread by terrorists to inflame sectarian violence in Iraq and to start a civil war."
Politics in the media are an evil thing...they are trying to help out their buddies at Newsweek, it seems--trying to diminish the work we're doing and harm the progress being made. Evil...

Should rumors be started about NBC?
The USMC when going out on missions should leave these these reporters in the middle of nowhere to their own devices. Now that would be interesting!
Kick out the reporters and do it like they used to do, have journalists that are actual armed forces members. That way they are subject to court martial if they undercut our troops with a story.
Hmmm, maybe EMBEDDED reporters better start making sure they don't get left behind on the battlefield by our troops while the enemy is still firing away. One way to clear out reporters giving aid and comfort and information to the enemy.
The problem is, these guys aren't REPORTING anything. They don't claim to have seen it, known anybody who's seen it, or even heard it from any source that can be verified (or even has a name, for that matter).
Now I'm not one to start or repeat rumors, but have you noticed the lack of quotations from the "Holy Koran" in NBC programming. Is it true that their office copies have been so defiled with unspeakable unholy substances that no employee will even look in the koran for the "Truth" when preparing a broadcast?

I hear a rumor that at the NBC office in New York they had the Koran in the restroom stalls for people to wipe with. I heard a rumor that it gave a very bad rash: mohammaroids or something.
It seems to me that none of these MSM types were at all exercised when the militant homosexuals defiled the Eucharist in St. Patrick's Cathedral. Likewise, barely a peep was heard when the IMPOTUS, Clinton, received Communion when he wasn't even Catholic. But these rumors must be aired even though Death will be the consequence. Indeed, body bags of Americans is seen as a strategic Godsend by Democrats.
