Seeing Saddam's Underpants [patriotism vs. pacifism in the media]
Pittsburgh Tribune Review ^ | 05/25/05 | Beth Ann Coonrod

There was a time when patriotism prevailed over political "correctness" in the media. During World War II, Americans sang a song about releasing flatulence in Hitler's face ("Der Fuehrer's Face," the title song of an Academy Award-winning Walt Disney cartoon). Now, the media tout the showing of Saddam Hussein in his underwear as a disgrace and downplay the horror of beheadings.

The latter view spews from the mouths and pens of the socialists in our country (many commonly referred to as liberal Democrats) who are trying to render the United States impotent by promoting global pacifism ... the same ones who are diligently working to weaken our country from within by misrepresenting our Constitution. ...

... I imagine it will take all the way until they lose their right to free speech for the liberal media to realize what they are doing to this country and ultimately themselves. In their zeal to deface the United States, they fail to see that they are being used as tools of our internal and external enemies. ...

Unfortunately, given what little is known about Hitler's sexual proclivities, he might well enjoy this.

Patriotism vs pacifism in the media

It's not pacifism, it's Bush hatred. I didn't hear any media pacifism when Clinton was bombing Serbia.

Isn't it odd: The print media's tirades about the picture of Saddam are surrounded by pictures of men and boys in underwear advertising the Memorial Day sales!

Let's see... if it touches on someone's sensitivities, it's a disgrace; if it brings a profit, it's OK. Do I have that right?
