Landrieu's vote was probably a polite concession, since I believe Louisiana is in the appellate district where Owen will preside.

As I said, the deal was to bring them to the floor for votes, not to vote to confirm them. The only Dems who voted aye on Owens were Byrd and Landrieu.

How does Iowa stand, generally speaking, when it comes to social issues?

It's all over the map, one extreme to the other. The conservatives are very conservative and the liberals are very liberal, and the numbers are pretty even. That's one of many valid reasons we continue to keep a hold on our the first-in-the-nation caucuses.

Byrd voted yes, shows he's worried about re-election.

He probably just woke up from his nap and didn't know what the vote was all about.

I was hoping to quietly correct my goof before it was detected, but, you are just too fast. See post #21

You dig down very far into Lieberman's makeup and you'll find a guy who does not believe women should rule over a man.

Lurked way too long, but how would you like to hail from Illinois where you had no vote? Look at the number of States that have two of the socialists 'representing' them. I voted with my feet and now hang my hat in Florida. BTW, the Conservatives down here do know how to vote!

Byrd must have voted on the prevailing side so he could ask for a revote later. :-)

So I heard that we only got 57 votes or whatever.
Can someone please explain to me, who is not that familiar with Senate rules.
It's okay that we didn't get 60 because the Democrats didn't "officially" filibuster?

They voted yesterday 81-18 to invoke cloture, that is, to cut off any filibuster. Today's vote was to actually confirm Owen to the bench.

You fine folks in RI should really do something about Chafee (RINO-RI)

So Chafee and Stevens are now officially the top RINOs, while Byrd and Landrieu should get a temporary pass.

" Byrd voted yes, shows he's worried about re-election"

I don't think so. Contrary to what we thought we saw, he was not asleep at his desk when Ted Kennedy (D-MA) and Harry Read (Senate Leader-NV) were telling the world that Owens and Brown wanted to take us back to the days of Jim Crow. Old Sheets, Robt. Byrd (KKK-WV) with memories of night rides in his sheet-n-hood and cross burnings believed them and voted accordingly.

Hey Xena,

Do you think that the Democrats feared criticism from women for not confirming these judges (Owen) and Brown (soon to be confirmed)?

I believe this had something to do with "The Deal"--but I wanted your opinion.
