(New York City Councilman) Barron Seeks Clemency for Cop Killer

Infuriating law-enforcement organizations and his colleagues, a City Council member, Charles Barron, introduced a resolution yesterday urging clemency for a convicted and escaped cop-killer, Assata Shakur, formerly known as Joanne Chesimard.

On May 2, 1973, Chesimard was involved in a roadside shoot-out with New Jersey State Police after the vehicle in which she and two companions were traveling was pulled over because of a malfunctioning taillight. During an exchange of gunfire, a New Jersey state trooper, Werner Foerster, was wounded. Chesimard, then a member of the Black Liberation Army and the Black Panther Party, was convicted of first-degree murder in 1977 for seizing the incapacitated trooper's side arm and using it to shoot him in the head.

While serving her sentence at New Jersey's Clinton Correctional Institution for Women, Chesimard, with the help of fellow members of the Black Liberation Army, staged a prison break in 1979. She escaped to Cuba, where she was granted asylum and is now shielded by the island nation's communist dictator, Fidel Castro.

Mr. Barron's council resolution, which he announced yesterday at a press conference on the steps of City Hall, calls on the New Jersey State Police and the Justice Department "to cease portraying Assata Shakur as a terrorist, and ... to rescind the reward for Shakur's capture and grant her clemency." The Brooklyn council member's resolution praises the convicted murderer as "a social justice activist, a poet, a mother, and a grandmother."

That anyone would consider this woman anything other than a terrorist is an outrage!

She has not paid her debt to society, and DAMMIT I WANT PAID! She may be a grandmother and a poet, but that doesn't excuse the fact that she is also a fugitive and murderer.

WTF is wrong with this country when a soldier has to fight for his life against unknown enemies then face murder charges when he defends himself. But A convicted cop killer and fugitive gets a get out of jail free card handed to her by the government?!!!

He's insane, a die hard anti-American Socialist. This is probably a pre-emptive move just in case we trade her for the guy we have who blew up an airplane in the 70's(80's?)

"On May 2, 1973 New Jersey State Troopers James Harper and Werner Foerster were patrolling the New Jersey Turnpike in the area of East Brunswick. They stopped a car with three occupants. The Troopers were questioning the occupants when the driver and female passenger suddenly came up with semi-automatic pistols and opened fire. Trooper Foerster was struck twice in the chest, and Trooper Harper was hit in the shoulder. The female then proceeded to take the service weapon from the injured Trooper Foerster. She pointed it at the wounded Trooper and shot him twice in the head, execution style. The thirty-four-year-old trooper with just three years on the road died soon after. He left a wife and family behind. Fortunately, Trooper Harper survived."

Barron needs to have his head examined.

We first need to remove it so we can have a better look.

Barron needs to have his head examined.

You'll need a proctologist.

A little reading on Charles Barron reveals he was a fellow Black Panther to Chesimard. Try this link or just google the combination of "Charles Barron" "Black Panther". I thought these communist failures only existed here in California...

Charles Barron proudly claims he is still a Black Panther here: link to The Brooklyn Rail
Here's one great quote from the article: Charles Barron - "As far as the guns and the actions with the police, that wasn't even a major part of our program."
Well by his admission using Black Panther guns against the police was to some extent a "part of the program". This is democracy in action!
