BERLIN, Germany (Reuters) -- American aviator Charles Lindbergh had three German mistresses simultaneously and seven secret children whom he visited and supported for decades, according to a new book published on Monday.

Eighteen months after genetic tests proved earlier claims by three Germans that Lindbergh was their father, their book called "The Double Life of Charles A. Lindbergh" says he fathered two more children with their aunt and two with his German secretary.

Lindbergh, who also had six children with his U.S. wife Anne Morrow Lindbergh, became world famous for his daring 1927 solo flight across the Atlantic from New York to Paris in 33 hours. He remained a worldwide celebrity until he died in 1974.

The new book recounts how Lindbergh started a romance with Munich hatmaker Brigitte Hesshaimer in 1957 when he was 55 and she was 32. As DNA tests confirmed, they had three children.

I think I read this in the National Enquirer several months ago. You know, even a stopped watch is right twice a day. :)

That would, er, tend to explain his "unusual" pro-German (er, isolation and "pacifism") prior to WWII.

We know Roosevelt's State Dept was strongly pro-Russian/Communism, but there were many other who took their lead from Lindberg.

I never read any biographies but I had the distinct impression that both he and Anne Morrow practised an "open" marriage and both had lovers on the side. Nevertheless, gracious goodness!

He fathered these children long after the war.

He supported Hitler for the same reason he fathered these children by three other women than his wife (2 of whom were sisters) because at heart he was a pig.

The more I hear of Limburgh, the more of a scumbag I find out he was. So much for the Jimmy Stewart image!

I caught an episode on Court TV that pretty much fingered Lindy as the murderer of his "kidnapped" son. Did anyone else see this? It was one of the "Forensic Files" episodes.

Just imagine how much he was paying in child support, if he paid anything at all.

...Seems to me he's no better than most of these dead beat parents that either father or give birth and leave their partners holding the bag.

What a pig.

It has been some years since Lindbergh could claim the title of hero in my book.

Jimmy Stewart is far more of a hero to me than is Lindbergh.

I guess when The History Channel aired a 75th anniversary tribute with his grandson back in 2002, this is one of those details they never bothered to get around to.

...I'm willing to bet dollars to doughnuts had Ronald Reagan done anything similar it would have been issue number one. But then again, Mr. Reagan was an honorable gentleman.

We still have eugenicists among us, especially "intellectuals".

Abortion has killed more than Hitler or Stalin ever did.

The March Of Dimes now prevents birth defects by aborting impaired children.

Terri Schivo/Schindler was murdered because of a "quality of life" issue. We were simultaneously told that it was "torture" to keep her in that state and that she wasn't really reacting to her environment when people would walk into the room. She didn't "feel" any pain as she was starved to death yet they played classical music and gave her teddy bears for "comfort".

The Nazis started with the terminally ill and mentally impaired too.

According to the lead sentence, he did pay:

"American aviator Charles Lindbergh had three German mistresses simultaneously and seven secret children whom he visited and supported for decades, according to a new book published on Monday."
