Venezuela's war message to the Caribbean
The American Thinker ^ | 6/4/05 | Staff

It was hard to not sense something was gravely wrong when Venezuelan dictator Hugo Chavez announced he would put his Caribbean oil headquarters in Havana, Cuba, a city of absolutely no economic significance, in fact, of no actual economy.

Havana's only significance is political, as the seat of U.S.'s leading enemy in the hemisphere, Fidel Castro. Chavez seemed to be trying to put the oil squeeze on the small Caribbean states, who have many votes in the United Nations and the Organization of American States, to extort those votes. It wasn't about oil, but oil as a strategic weapon. But it was more than that.

Yesterday the Venezuelan media announced huge naval exercises to defend against a potential U.S. blockade and invasion. Sixteen ships and up to 5000 military personnel (out of a total of 78,000-strong total military) participated. They were aided by Chavez's Bolivarian Circles paramilitaries, whose job is to ensure the impoverished barrios don't come out and drop flowers at the feet of the supposedly invading U.S. troops, but instead "win" against such an event - like Fallujah.

Let's see, the 16 ships will be gone in the first hour, and the 78,000 trops might take a week to put down.

Chavez proves his insanity.

He has hitched his wagon to a dead horse and a dead ideology.

Does he seriously think he will be able to provoke the US into some confrontation with him? He is crazier than Kim Jong Il and Mugabe if that is the case.

On the contrary.

He has oil money, coke money and Chinese money and their support.

I think he may be hoping to become the new imroved Pan Latin American Castro when the old murderer kicks off.

They're not much by themselves, but when the International SHTF, they will be a sharp thorn in our posteriors.

I think the Chinese are looking to remake Red Dawn with a slightly different cast.

Is Venezuela at war aside from the problems with Colombia and Guyana? Is there an analogy with psychological disorder?

I hope we could make a new record. Was it UK that had a world record beating its opponent less than an hour?

He has hitched his wagon to a dead horse and a dead ideology.

It's not a dead ideology. Have you noticed that only the U.S. seems concerned about Venezuela? The rest of the world seems to appreciate dictators like Chavez, Castro and Mugabe and offers them verbal support to a degree. Like people believe Cuba is a paradise of equality or Zimbabwe is a bastion for the rights of people of color against their white oppressors. In Venezuela, it's the evil corporations d refused to pay more than a few pennies on the dollars of oil sold to the U.S. and Chavez is using the money for the poor. No one stands up to these clowns and now Chavez is courting the Chinese to run his oil enterprise. The Chinese also control both ends of the Panama Canal (thanks Clinton). Now he is going to put the squeeze on the Carribean nations to support him in the U.N. or even militarily. He is trying to frame the international debate such that the U.S. will look like the evil, agressive hegemony trying to take over a region Chavez is offering to altruistically protect. It's a big voting block in the U.N. he wants to have on a leash. Someone needs to pop a cap in this guys head.

Chavez has no concept of the capabilities or size of a carrier battle group, does he?

"...huge naval exercises to defend against a potential U.S. blockade and invasion. Sixteen ships..."

I wonder if a modern US carrier battle group could handle sixteen world war II era ships. The Venezuelan people sit in awe of the huge naval power they have built...Blhahahahaha!

He's a joke - looking for some attention.

The exercise is just noisemaking.

He doesn't care about the size of a carrier group since he IS aware of the size of the hole in America's nether garments.

His ally, Vincente will be only too glad to help out.

I think the Chinese are looking to remake Red Dawn with a slightly different cast.

If the US economy falters, 250,000,000 Chinese are out of work, hungry and pissed-off with their leaders.

The last 2 Democrat presidents have been enemies of America.

When George Allen or whoever can speak a clear sentence for the Republicans frames the argument in 2008, any Democrat will be lucky to get 40% of the vote.

The international issues MUST be framed against the background of inept Dem presidents and the dangerous party they represent.

I predict and awesome campaign with everything on the table.

If the economy is chugging along, the Dems face extinction.

He probably got the idea from me. :)

I just ordered the series today.

Big Matt Bracken fan, too.
It's a race to see who's scenario will come first.

I'll guess both.
