FILE ** Radical Shiite Muslim cleric Muqtada al-Sadr speaks at a news conference in Najaf, 165 kilometers (100 miles) south of Baghdad, in this October 14, 2003 file photo. Arguably Iraq's most popular Shiite group, followers of radical cleric Muqtada al-Sadr have packed away their guns and speak of 'political resistance' rather than martyrdom in battle. When Al-Sistani and Chalabi put the squeeze on him, Al Sadr decided to get on with the program. His followers are not exactly lacking in a voice in the new government and as radical as they are, they know Al Zarqawi's goons would slaughter them. So they joined the mainstream in no small part out of a need for protection.

As easily as the diaper-head wacko moved from a "radical shi'it cleric" to "mainstream political figure", he'd move back and worse - depending on what suits him in the moment.

Thus, I say: burry bad Musli clerics in bad coffins, and good Musli clerica in good ones.
