Kerry: Dunce is not enough (Democrat got 5 Ds at Yale, average lower than Bush's)
World Net Daily ^ | 6/7/05

Posted on 06/07/2005 12:40:14 PM PDT by Conservative Coulter Fan

Newly released Navy records of Sen. John Kerry show the 2004 Democratic presidential candidate, who was portrayed as the intellectual superior of President Bush, actually received a lower academic average than his rival while studying at Yale, including five Ds.

The transcript of grades, which Kerry has always declined to release, was part of a set of Naval records requested and finally received by the Boston Globe. Last month, Kerry gave the Navy permission to release the records to the paper, something he refused to do during last fall's campaign.

While Bush and Kerry were at Yale, the school had a numerical scoring system.

Bush received a cumulative score of 77 for his first three years at Yale and a roughly similar average under a non-numerical rating system during his senior year. Kerry, who graduated two years before Bush, received a cumulative score of 76 for his four years. Those grades include four Ds in his freshman year and one in his sophomore year.

According to the Globe, the military and medical records released appear identical to what Kerry has already released, but this marks the first time Kerry's grades have been publicly reported.

The transcript shows that Kerry's freshman-year average was 71, or a low C. He scored a 61 in geology, a 63 and 68 in two history classes, and a 69 in political science. His top score was a 79, in another political science course. Another of his strongest efforts, a 77, came in French class. His highest single grade was an 89, for a political science class in his senior year.

Under Yale's grading system in effect at the time, grades between 90 and 100 equaled an A, 80-89 a B, 70-79 a C, 60 to 69 a D, and anything below that was a failing grade.

''I always told my Dad that D stood for distinction," Kerry said yesterday in a written response to questions, telling the Globe he has previously acknowledged that he spent a lot of time learning to fly instead of focusing on his studies.

Bush received one D in his four years at Yale, scoring a 69 in astronomy. The president has described himself as a C student in college.

Radio talk-show host Rush Limbaugh said it's obvious why Democrats did not release Kerry's records during the presidential campaign.

"It would have made them a laughing stock," Limbaugh said during his show today. "They're out there talking about Bush as a dunce. ... He (Bush) gets better grades at Yale than John Kerry. ... It's typical. [The Democrats are] a bunch of pretentious, spoiled, lying brats."

The libs are off their "collective" rocker on this story. Got in an arguement today with an office worker whose a "Facts don't matter" lib...and that, now conveniently, such evidence doesn't mean that Bush isn't a moron, which isn't the intent of such evidence.

The intent of the evidence IMHO is related to someone of Kerry's ilk, transcripts, making the blanket claim that Bush is either ignorant or a Dunce...yet, his own background would suggest parity or less than parity with Bush. A fact the crazy lib...tried to move away from and move the arguement into absurdity and away from what the grades mean..."that the pot was calling the kettle black, throughout the election." What was worse...Kerry knowingly concealed his records...to cover this fact up.

Libs...smart enough to make bad arguements everyday. They are truly poor, misguided, souls.

What Kerry refuses to do is sign the 180 authorizing an independant person (preferably someone like Rush Limbaugh) to examine those files unhindered.
He may request those files for himself, then pick and choose what he wants to let out. That's just not good enough.

On DU they're saying this is becasue of "grade inflation". Still, George was smart enough to be President, and Kerry was not.

Yeah...and that is truly the gift that keeps on giving.

Nothing makes me happier than asking the random nut job lib (out of the blue):

Who won the 2004 election? It's a great feeling.

"The libs are off their "collective" rocker on this story."

There...fixed it for you. ;o)

"that the pot was calling the kettle black, throughout the election."

This is a fact that can't be disputed.
Your "crazy lib" had no arguements.

"What was worse...Kerry knowingly concealed his records...to cover this fact up."

To cover up this, and what else?

Thanks for relating your story.

Yeah - I don't understand why no newspaper ever tried to get Kerry's grades at Yale.

Bush just wants people to think he's dumb so they can 'misunderestimate' him. He's sharp as a tack, and only dumb people can't seem to realize that.

Not defending Kerry or Bush but grades is not always an indicator of brains.

At least he came out and said he was a "C" student. He did not let a myth be built around what a massive intellect he had in college or continues to have to this day. If you will recall this is the same thing they said about Al Gore who flunked out of graduate school. He was not such a great student either but they made him out to a genius. Bush must not be a dumb as they think or he would not have beat them both for the White House.

Grade inflation? Does that mean Kerry got straight F's?
Kerry will not have another shot at the presidency anyways, from the looks of things, it's going to be Hillary in '08.
kerry may run in the primary, but their queen will walk all over him. Maybe he'll go for VP, (shudder)

What were Kerry's issues? The nut of all of this is the fact that his party lacks issues to take to the people. They are positioned such that they cannot fight, they have never had to, and now they have nothing to offer. As such, they take their desires to court where the voter is overruled.

im not saying that he doesnt believe that stuff. he does and im not doubting that. I'm just saying the image as a hard working, southern rancher isnt true. He hasnt been through what most people have been through, esp the core of the republican party where i live, isnt the pro buisness wing. The fact is he had things laid out for him in life, and he is in his image as much of a phoney as Kerry.

I understand that Yale is, or at least was, a demanding school, but to go four years and never once get an A?

If you read his Biographies, even by the people that hate him you will find that you're wrong. Yes, he came from a wealthy family, but he went to work in the Oil Fields w/o pappy's help. He loves Midland and is a regular guy, not anything like you think. You cannot fake his life.

I disagree. Although part of being in politics is having to be phony to one side of an issue or another, but with regard to phoniness, these two are not on the same planet.

By all accounts, President Bush is a genuinely decent person. All the people who work for him hold him in high regard. A good measure is to see what his Secret Service agents think, his Marine guards think, and what the White House service staff think. I have heard tell from all three sources that he treats people with respect, from his Chief of Staff down to the guy who makes his sandwich or takes out the White House trash.

Also, he meets with a lot of people behind the scenes without a lot of media hullabaloo, particularly those who serve, are injured, or families of those who have died.

Zell Miller said it best when he made the reference to "I am blind but now I see" in his speech at the RNC. I think President Bush has had to subject himself to a serious self examination because of his alcohol problems, and came out of it a better person. My dad, a 30 year naval veteran, was a functioning alcoholic his entire life. He kicked it at the age of 60, and the process he went through to kick it changed him remarkably for the better, from a man who was already remarkable. I do not doubt the same change occurred to a degree with the President.

I understand your cynicism, but I disagree with it.

That's a good point. Do you recall what issues he was running on? I followed the election closely, and keeping an even manner about things, I can't recollect any positions he advocated...other than Bush is moron, and he should so clearly be President...ahhh but the facts doth kill, don't they Kerry.

Again...much pleasure is obtained from hearing the lib Shrill over who the current POTUS is.

Watch the face of a nutty lib when asking them that if Gay Marriage is such a hot issue, and they are soooo right on the issue..why not put it to a vote? (Which it has been done in certain states) It's a representative democracy right? what about hetero-sexual rights? Don't they have a voice...I mean fair is fair, right? Shouldn't that be the right way...ahahahhahaahah...then you get the "yeah buts"...and the whack job lib displays the lack of basic knowledge in U.S. Civics.

Okay, how do FReepers' scores match up?

Wasn't Yale, but a well respected small college where I busted tail for a BS, 3.4/4.0 QPA. Only one "C" grade, handful of "Bs" and the rest solid "A". And all of that was at night school while working a full time 40 hour job.
