I think the problem with many of these designs is that they try to cram too many things in.
Colorado's design is lame, but it has the virtue of simplicity and unity over Minnesota's.
My advice to future state design committees: pick one thing and stick with it. Don't try to cram in every famous site or image your fair state is known for.

I have to say - Florida's is lame.

ROFL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What makes that comment so funny is the amount of quarter horses in Delaware for harness racing :)

As I recall, there were five or six designs and a big campaign for Cal citizens to pick the best. It was pretty well publicized too.
You can't blame the tree huggers if they organized better than other groups.

Someone should do his doctoral thesis in linguistics on trying to distinguish differences in dialect between Yoopers and the folks in nothern Wisconsin. My fairly discerning ear can't tell them apart.

I'm original from Louisiana and now live in Texas and my favorite is the motto on New Hampshire, "Live Free Or Die". When I was in Wisconsin, there was a contest to select a replacement for "America's Dairyland" as the license plate slogan. The most popular entry: "Eat Cheese or Die!" They eventually decided a change wasn't needed.

Another slogan that didn't catch on was the one proposed for Iowa: "Gateway to Nebraska"

Is the buzzard on the California quarter supposed to be waiting for John Muir to keel over?

I can't wait for the Washington quarter. I'll bet it's a hammer and sickle with the Stalin quote "It's not who votes, it's who counts the votes."

Yeah, there was some pretty blatent fraud reported by the papers in Detroit as well. The GOP tossed a few states overboard when it was clear that they had won without us.

My family has been going "up north" for 103 years -- about 40 miles shy of Yooperland. I do not hear ANY wild accent any more in that area (Eagle River chain of lakes), but then, I don't hit the bars any more either :-)

For all it's faults, Canada has some cool images on its currency. The one on top shown below is the back of the $5 bill. I've seen come currency like that somewhere...

One of my treasures is an 1836 Half Dollar
It is not a choice collector coin but was minted in the year of the Alamo and Texas Independence. That makes it very special to me to be able to hold in my hand a piece of history as old as the Alamo.

I've been on that bridge over the New River Gorge.
Awe-inspiring experience.
A beautiful place.
I think West Virginia chose well.
