Legion Chief Assails Sen. Durbin's Slander of Servicemembers

WASHINGTON, June 17 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The leader of the nation's largest veterans organization today called for a full apology from Sen. Richard Durbin for his outlandish remarks against U.S. military personnel.

"There are lies and there are #### lies," American Legion National Commander Thomas P. Cadmus said. "Senator Durbin knows better and owes every man and woman in the United States Armed Forces an apology for his totally inaccurate remarks comparing our sons and daughters to crimes of Adolf Hitler, Josef Stalin, and Pol Pot." ADVERTISEMENT

"I would encourage Senator Durbin to visit Guantanamo - not a VIP tour - but receive POW/MIA training from the United States Army and spend his August recess working along side of the very Americans he has defamed," Cadmus said. "The young service members that I have the honor to meet are honest, hard-working, dedicated patriots. Clearly, there were some malcontents that will receive swift and just punishment. But to wantonly stereotype every GI Joe and Jane is conduct unbecoming a Member of Congress."

The Pentagon reports that since Sept. 11, 2001, more than 70,000 detainees have been captured in Afghanistan and Iraq. The vast majority have been released but approximately 520 prisoners remain at Gitmo, identified as terrorist trainers, bomb makers, terrorist financiers, Usama bin Laden's body-guards and would-be suicide bombers. Numerous investigations have not identified any significant abuse there.

"Senator Durbin's remarks could very well make him the 'Hanoi Jane' of this conflict," Cadmus added. "Many veterans believe Jane Fonda's remarks gave aid and comfort to the enemy. It sure provided them with plenty of propaganda fodder. I am totally outraged by his hideous slight of those he should be honoring for their selfless devotion to this nation. Especially egregious is the fact that his remarks not only insulted U.S. servicemembers but all the innocent victims of Hitler, Stalin and Pol Pot. I take great exception to this irresponsible comparison of my comrades in arms to thugs that killed millions of helpless, noncombatants."

The American Legion strongly encourages veterans from all across America to contact Senator Durbin's offices in Illinois and on Capitol Hill.

"I sincerely hope that he will reconsider his comments and do the right thing - admit he made a mistake and seek forgiveness from those he has deeply offended - the servicemembers and their families," Cadmus said. "God bless the men and women in harms' way. Give them the strength and courage to continue their honorable military service."

Thank you Commander Cadmus. You and all veterans are owed many apologies from this pig-like, traitorous, libelous, buffoonish, vile, loathsome, profoundly dishonest, obstructionist, corrupt, deceitful, anti-American, devisive, manipulative fecal-mass-pretending-to-be-a-human.

Here is a letter that I just sent to Dicky Durby:

Dear Senator Durbin,

I am greatly disappointed that a United States Senator would compare our soldiers at Guantanamo to Hitler, Stalin and Pol Pot. A cold or hot room and loud rap music in no way compares with gas chambers, starvation or being shot.

You owe our troops and our nation an apology at the very minimum. Many Americans consider your comments irresponsible, treasonous and seditious. Do us all a favor and politely resign. I have notified my senators Allen and Warner and issued a condemnation of your statements and called for your censure. We are fighting a war against an evil enemy who is sworned to destroy our nation and its citizens. (Including you!!!) It is obvious from your comments that you lack the courage, resolve, maturity and intestinal fortitude that is necessary to provide our nation the leadership it needs for our complete and total victory over this heinous enemy. This is the only solution for our nations survival. Your attitude and comments will only embolden and encourage our enemies to fight on. You should know that the American people will begin to hold you and those like you responsible for further deaths and attacks on our homeland.

Sincerely,

##########

Here's something else Veterans organizations need to do. They need to ask what it means when dems say they "support the troops".

Dems don't support the mission, the President, the War, or the Military. So what is it the dems support? They support young healthy men. In their prime. And the cute uniforms they ware. Period.

And if that's not the case, I would like someone to ask them what they do support. Because just liking healthy young men isn't enough. And it's creepy.

Oh I wrote him earlier today. I really let him have it. I was outraged...I mentioned are we supposed to care about people who are of the same mentality of those who behead innocent people? I tell ya, Senators, the media, and people in Hollywood who stick up for people like this are demented.

if someone here can post a picture and will trust me to fwd an e-mail to them, please freepmail me. I have one of the most tear jerking, heart rendering photos I have ever seen.

It came from the AP (no link) and it shows a pearl harbor survivor hugging a Marine Corps Sgt that lost an arm and leg difussing a roadside bomb in Iraq. I think it was sent to me around Memorial day.

It is a very moving photo and guaranteed to unclog your tear ducts, but i'm a lo-tech redneck and don't know how to post pics.

The best way to deal with Durbin is to get a veteran to run against him with the campaign slogan: "Dick Durban before he dicks you again!"

Great point.

They don't support the C-I-C

They don't support the WOT

They don't support our Troops

They evidently don't support America since they reject her decision Nov.2 2004 nor do they support enemies of this country being detained.

American Legion National Commander Thomas P. Cadmus, I thank you. And I join you in prayer for our service men and woman and their families of past, present and future as well as those truly victims of Nazi's, Stalin and Pol Pot.

I believe it's called "Two Generations of Marine Warriors". I keep a copy on hard drive to look at when I need inspiration, if that doesn't inspire someone, they have no heart at all.
