GOP has no lock on Texas, Dean says
Houston Chronicle ^ | June 17, 2005, | KRISTEN MACK

Democratic National Chairman Howard Dean, who's taken some heat for his hot rhetoric, kept it cool in a visit to Houston on Friday, quietly pressing the Democratic case to a group of Indian-American physicians.

"We are reaching out to groups all over the country like this one," Dean said, adding that he plans to travel to India next winter.

"This party is a party that believes in diversity."

Dean also is scheduled to headline fund-raisers in Austin, Corpus Christi and Dallas during his Texas visit.

"Unlike previously, we are actually going to spend money in Texas," Dean said after his address. "We're in a 50-state battle, not an 18-state battle."

Because Texas has become solidly Republican, national Democratic candidates haven't spent much time in the state in recent years, except to collect campaign contributions.

But Democrats hope the state may be more competitive in next year's midterm elections, partly because House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, R-Sugar Land, has faced ethics probes. Former Democratic U.S. Rep. Nick Lampson of Beaumont, who lost his seat because of redistricting engineered by DeLay, has announced that he'll run against the majority leader.

Dean said he plans to fight to make Texas a Democratic state.

Dean, who is a physician, stuck largely to health-care topics in his short speech before the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin conference.

"We need an administration that values science," Dean said, adding that President Bush "needs to stop blocking stem cell research."

Dean, a former Vermont governor who once was the front-runner for the 2004 Democratic presidential nomination, became talk-show and late-night television fodder for a shouting pep talk to supporters after he placed third in the Iowa caucuses.

The GOP doesn't have a lock here? Sure thing, Dean. Come to Texas and spend like crazy for the Democrats. It will pay off, big time.

Now, can I interest you in some oceanfront property in Ohio? I have some wonderful prices.

Dean has no lock -- in fact, not even a grip -- on sanity.

No one spends money in Texas, not even the RNC. Although they did campaign HARD for those new Congressional Districts.

I had to bring down Bush Signs and Stickers for my family from Minnesota. They were the only ones in thier neighborhood with any kind of a sign

Texas has been a Republican state for less than 8 years. There are a ton of Yellow Dog RATS waiting to be let lose to vote once again for a RAT. If the leaders of the republican party do not learn to run the state better than the last legislative session we will not be a republican state 8 years from now.

Remember GWB was called a leader because he worked With a DemoRat House leader - not because he created the first republican state.

Dean spent his summers growing up at the whites only Maidstone Club in the Hamptons. Dems oughta practice what they preach

"This party is a party that believes in diversity."

Uh...diversity of WHAT? Race-baiting, meritless insults, endless scare-tactics, death-on demand up to the 121st trimester, barely masked socialism, communism and Marxism (i.e. "we're going to take those things away from you, for the common good"...She Who Must Not Be Named)?

Any more of this, and the only "diversity" I'll have is to pick out a mahogany casket or a plain wood box.

Yellow dog RATS are a dying breed.

If the leaders of the republican [sic] party do not learn to run the state better than the last legislative session we will not be a republican [sic] state 8 years from now.

If you believe this, then assuredly you'd want to hear about the oceanfront property for sale in Ohio. It's a steal of a deal, I tell ya!

I'm a Texan that is old enough to remember a time when Texas was a democratic state. Back in LBJ's heyday Texas was considered very democratic.

But those days have gone and as long as the dims continue to put the "girly men" socialists they keep putting forward it will never be democratic again.

If the rats think getting mad and upset because a terrorist is too hot or too cold is going to play in Texas or that this country is the equivalent of nazi Germany or the USSR. They will waste their words and money campaining in Texas.

Texans believe in the USA and we believe in self defense. If you mess with Texas be prepared to get messed with in return. If the muslim terrorists don't like it they can crawl back under their rocks, if they continue their attacks they can expect Texans to kill them where ever they hide............

Depends upon the race, etc. Primaries usually gather some cash flow and the last general we had the democrat dream team faced off against the Gov. and Sen. Cornyn. But in general you are correct about a national type race, President and congress critters.

Shut down the ballot fraud and the dims will lose almost everything that they still have in Texas. Good examples include Beaumont, the Lower Valley, and inner city Houston. Scrub the dead, felons, and phantoms off the rolls. I hate to say it, but not enough Republicans are volunteering. Last November I took the training and became an Alternate Election Judge. The precinct they sent me to was 65% Republican, yet ALL of the election crew was Democrat. They had run that precinct for every election for many years. They were amazed when I showed up. Think of the effect if we had a Republican judge and a crew of pool watchers in every dim precinct in Texas. Based on my experience, at least 10% of the votes in most dim precincts are fraudulent. Its been enough to swing important elections. Fellow Freepers, get out there and VOLUNTEER!
