...At least 1,718 members of the U.S. military have died since the Iraq war started in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count...
---

Why can't they just report the news when it is possitive?
Always have to revert to negative news.

Please don't try and circumvent FR's excerpting rules by omitting the link. Thanks.

Marc Ginsberg was just on Fox with Tony Snow---they were discussing the western border with Syria, and ways to stop insurgents..

Ginsberg used to be the Ambassador to Morroco, and he said that if it comes down to it...The US and Iraq could build a hugh sand berm along the border...he said it worked in other places... he mentioned the border of Algeria, but I didn't hear the other country involved...

I sounds simplistic and not really useful, but he was dead serious and said it does work to have a hugh barrier of sand!

How 'bout they patrol the border w Global Hawks and Predators and ZAP ANYBODY that isn't crossing at the prescribed checkpoints?

The protocol at the checkpoints should be obvious.

My sentiments exactly, and no one crosses through the check points after dark. No vehicle travel between 8PM and 6 AM within 20 km's of the border.

Big Sand Berms could work. They are pretty difficult to get over in any vehicle that is not Buggy-like. And the point I think is that they don't have to be inpenatrable they just have to make it hard to cross them.

Lets say 2 big steep berms about 5 miles apart running the length of the border. Anything within the 2 berms outside of normal checkpoint areas will die. So you say, what about the people who live within the 5 mile SBC(sand bound corridor) They get a chance to move before the "everything within the 5 mile SB dies" operations start.

It would be realativly cheap to do this. And it would work. You name me one Ali that is gonna want to walk 5 miles in the SBC carring his water and Koran and macthes to light his camel dung fires and all his terrorist toys.

See, you coudn't name me one! It is about keeping the vehicles from going 30-50 miles per hour full of men and gear. It would take Ali(if he chose to do it) the whole night to make it and with what? A case of itchy ass. better than him having a case of RPGs in his Converted BMW.

Now for your second lesson on border protection. Refer to the above. use your find and replace tool and find Ali and replace it with Pedro or Manuel or Julio.

I think you get the point.

Great news! Kill all of them. Take no prisoners because they'll be released again and try murdering our soldiers again.

I will not knock your suggestions. But we must remember, that probably half or more of the 380 linear distance of Iraq/Syrian border is so remote, the terrain so difficult to move any form of earth moveing equipement to form a berm as suggested, that such a thing is not practical. Perhaps in some key areas where roads actually exists on a north/south grid this could be done. But to think one can just move dozers into large wadis consisting of nothing more then cliffs overlooking dried creek beds, and terrain that no vehicle could move over, remember on the latitude plane, from roughly Al Quam going westward to the far extreme northern border between Jordan and Iraq and just above Syria, it is a desert mountainous platue. Maps indicate few roads that actually traverse north/south between the S/I border. As for the most eastward slanting w to ne part east of the Euphrates river, I have no geological reference to but assume it is much like what I just described in the western boundaries. And we cannot be so sure that the foreign terrorist are not traveling light, e.g. rifle/canteen/chicken head in pouch, over some of these vast smuggler routes that contain no roads.
But again I surely do support your enthusiasm, and I mean that.

LOL---I forgot about what the land is like at the border..

Did you see the new thread that is about the Marines in Iraq that found 4 Iraqi patrolmen that had been kidnapped and tortured by the insurgents???

Yup, they found them and are getting the medical help...now, how many times will that story make the top of the MSM reports or newspapers???
