In light of yesterdays horrendous SCOTUS decision concerning property rights, I am attaching the following petition. Our property can be taken with the stroke of the pen by any city or county commission. I don't know if it will do any good whatsoever, but here's your chance.
TOPICS: Constitution/Conservatism; Crime/Corruption; Culture/Society; News/Current Events; Politics/Elections
KEYWORDS: impeachment; impeachscotus; scotus

Can the President overrule the SCOTUS? No! But, you are correct, the silence is deafening.

I hate to sound ignorant, but can congress override a Supreme Court decision?

I have heard comments that the overriding authority for this is State laws. I ask these commenter's didn't Scotus just over ride State Laws concerning Medical Marijuana?

Our property can be taken with the stroke of the pen by any city or county commission. Not in my state.
The people of Connecticut definitely need to get moving on this issue, though.

Someone said the White house filed a friend of the court paper in this case. In other words, The Bush administration supported this ruling. Not Good.

I do not want to sound critical but this kind of thing looks very reactionary and extreme. While I disagree with the court's decision I feel like the pressure should be put on the executive and legislative branch to transform the courts. It sure would be nice to see Stevens on the way out.

Sure, they can pass a law, that the Supreme Court can then strike down as unconstitutional. So, then Congress or the States have to vote on an amendment to the constitution, and a super-majority have to approve. It is pretty darn hard. The most straightforward approach is if one of the justices who voted for this stupid decision retires, Bush appoints a strict constructionist to take his/her place, and a similar case gets considered and it is overturned. Of course, that isn't easy either.
