Brazil maybe out of the United Nations Security Council Permanent Seat race
India-Defence ^

29 June 2005: With Brazil being opposed by its neighbours, Canada and the US, its run for a permanent seat in the UN Security Council looks hopeless, and both Germany and Japan want it out of the G-4, and G-4’s ultimate disbandment, but only India is holding out.

Diplomats said that German foreign minister Joschka Fischer had conveyed opposition to Brazil to India, Japan and Brazil itself, although until the G-4 resolution is moved after the UN General Assembly goes into session in September, India, Germany and Japan will try to push Brazil’s case.

The United States, while conveying its own and others’ opposition to Brazil, including Mexico, Argentina, Venezuela, and Canada, has told Germany that not only must the G-4 be disbanded, Germany itself will have to change its foreign policy in respect of Europe, and diplomats said Germany was keen to do so to get into the Security Council.

Diplomats said that India is resisting breaking up the G-4, but the Indian foreign office now believes there is no option, because the US is opposed, and both Germany and Japan have accepted it too as being inevitable.

This is an excellent example of what the consequences of stabbing America in the back should be. Germany should get the same treatment.
