Authorities say an undercover sting at the Tuxachanie Hiking Trail has scared away men suspected of gathering there for sex.
That doesn't mean they won't turn up in another area of the DeSoto National Forest. But if they do, federal law enforcement agencies are on the lookout, said Ron Smith, acting district ranger for the U.S. Forest Service.
And so are Harrison County deputies who will continue to check the area.
Smith, in a meeting Thursday with Sheriff George H. Payne Jr., credited deputies with a sting in early June that resulted in six men's arrests on charges of indecent exposure.
Deputies conducted the sting at the Forest Service's request after both agencies received complaints of men engaged in sexual activity along the public nature trail.
"On Friday afternoons, our officers would see 20 to 30 men out there," said Payne. "This isn't just a Harrison County problem. National parks and public hiking trails are a known haven for this type of people."
One of the complaints came from a woman who took her two children on a hike. They saw two men engaged in activity that should never be seen in public, said Payne.
Plainclothes deputies were propositioned by six men during an investigation of several months, said Payne. Two deputies were assaulted while trying to make an arrest.
Several of those arrested are from Hattiesburg. They probably were drawn to the hiking trail because it's a "wildland-urban area, where forest meets city," said Smith.
"It is our mission to make sure that visitors to the DeSoto National Forest have a safe and pleasant experience," he said. "Because our law enforcement staff is small and covers seven counties, we couldn't have addressed this problem without the Sheriff's Department's help."

Clearly a vector control situation!
Wouldn't seeding the forest with, say, fire ants, or killer bees, or some other unpleasant critters, have accomplished the same thing, but more permanently and without incurring the police overtime costs?
Why can't the sodomites stay behind closed doors with their perversions? Just another indication that being queer is a psychological abnormality indicating a life obsessed with ejaculation.
The bottom line is that they deliberately do it in public....even more that straights. It's pervasive wherever they are.
They are, this particular group of homosexual men, exhibitionists in the worst sense. They get off on doing it where they can be watched. That IS part of the sick-sex homosexual scene....just at it is part of the sick-sex straight scene.

Remember, fagosexuality is no different from heterosexuality. Guess they ran out of soiled gas station bathrooms to sodomize each other in.

The rate things are going, anyone who tries to interfere with the gays' "outdoor activities" is liable to get charged with a hate crime.

The sad thing is many of the guys engaging in these acts in the park are married (to women).
