BERLIN - Workers on Tuesday began removing a field of crosses at Berlin's former Checkpoint Charlie after a privately run museum lost a court battle to keep the memorial to people killed at the East German border during the Cold War.
Workers in blue overalls began unscrewing the 1,067 crosses after covering the plaques with the victims' names and carrying them away.
"No, no, you have to listen to me," said museum director Alexandra Hildebrandt, imploring the court bailiff without effect as workers arrived at the site and began work.
Several hundred protesters jeered and whistled derisively in the rain at the former crossing point between East and West Berlin. "Remember, Don't Forget" read one sign. Several people shouted "Betrayers of the fatherland!" (snipped)
Get rid of all evidence of the criminality of communism and it's like it never happened............
I like the idea of a memorial for those killed by the Communists. However, I do find a certain irony that the memorial's creator wants to do it on someone else's land.
Hitler is back. The swastika was used as the symbol for the national Socialist because it represented a broken cross and showed that they had pushed Christianity into the abyss. Seems as though the left is making a come back.
"The swastika was used as the symbol for the national Socialist because it represented a broken cross and showed that they had pushed Christianity into the abyss."
I've never heard that. Source?
I always thought that it was adopted for its occult value - the swastika is an old symbol with no inherent relation to Christianity (and a favorite symbol of Alexandra, the last Russian Czarina).
Yep....but truth will never die.
Replace them with the "Hammer and Sickle" and "Swaztika". That will satisfy them. EUROPE IS DOOMED! Two thousand years of history's greatest mistakes and they cannot even remember what happened 60 or so years ago. Its not just the French. The whole continent is nuts.
Read it last week, I thing it was in "Commentary" will look.
How long will it be until the USSC orders the crosses on Flanders Field & Normandy Beach to be pulled up?
sometime in the distant past, I learned that the swastika symbol originated in ancient India......though I cannot recall the particulars
They stuck their heads in the sand during the second world war concerning the death camps, what make you think that they would not do it again.
