CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A convenience store clerk shot a robber three times. The store manager said the shooting sends a message to thieves to stay out.
Business is back to normal at a BP station on Ashley Road near Interstate 85 in west Charlotte after an early morning robbery attempt.
Store manager Rebecca Williamson is hoping that what happened early Monday morning sends a loud message out to criminals.
"It's 2005. People are not playing around anymore. There's a lot of stores getting robbed around here and there's a lot of people taking action," said Williamson.
According to police, just before 3 a.m. Monday morning, two men with guns came into rob Williamson's store.
Police said seconds after getting cash and a cell phone from an employee, the employee pulled a gun of his own. He shot one of the suspects three times. Then, the clerk jumped into the robbers' getaway car and tried chasing down the second gunman who took off running.
Customer Tommie Martin is glad the clerk took action.
"You run into a store and rob it. Ain't no guarantee it's going to go your way," said Martin.
Many of the employees in the Ashley Road BP store have concealed weapons permits and bring their guns to work each shift.
"I feel more comfortable knowing I work with people with them," said Williamson.
Williamson just got a gun license and after this morning's robbery, she said she's now going to be getting a concealed weapons permit so she can start carrying a gun at work.
The National Association of Convenience Stores recommends against clerks with guns.
The group said clerks should not resist a robber because that could lead to violence.
They said many times workers aren't trained properly on how to use guns.

But what about those times when capitulation also leads to violence (pretty much always the bad kind)
In truth, one who believes it wrong to arm himself against criminal
violence shows contempt of God's gift of life (or, in modern parlance,
does not properly value himself), does not live up to his responsibilities
to his family and community, and proclaims himself mentally and morally
deficient, because he does not trust himself to behave responsibly. In
truth, a state that deprives its law-abiding citizens of the means
to effectively defend themselves is not civilized but barbarous,
becoming an accomplice of murderers, rapists, and thugs and revealing
its totalitarian nature by its tacit admission that the disorganized,
random havoc created by criminals is far less a threat than are men and
women who believe themselves free and independent, and act accordingly.

BTW--what is a "gun license" and how does it differ from a conceal and carry license?
The National Association of Convenience Stores recommends against clerks with guns encourages crime.
There, that's better.

Do you know which end the bullet comes out of?
Do you know where the trigger is?
Is the robber standing right in front of you?
Good enough.
That's the idea! If enough criminals meet a violent response to their behavior, maybe others will rethink their career choices!
It does not say how seriously the perp was injured; hopefully shot #3 was to "finish him off".

I lived in Charlotte for a few years.
My first night in town, I went to a local convenience store for some beer.
As I'm walking into the store, a guy was on his way out so I held the door open for him.
I enter the store and as I'm walking toward the coolers in the back the clerk, who is up front behind the counter, starts screaming, "I've been robbed!"
Turns out it was the guy I held the door open for.
Yeah, I felt like an idiot.
Scary how the liberal mind works...
I LOVE a happy story!
Well there ya go....maybe they should man the counter at Oh Dark Thirty for a few weeks and reconsider their statement...:o)
I know of a small Mom 'n Pop Shop that at 1800 locked up their doors and didn't open them until 0600. Between those hours they used an old bullet resistant drive up bank window with a big drawer. Ya wanted a case of cervesa after hours ya did the drive up purchase.
During regular hours they did business from a bullet proof cashiers cage and the exit was a set of double doors that could be locked by the clerk in an instant if a snatch and grab style cookie criminal caused chaos. An old double barrel 12 gauge was in a rack visable to the customers etc to let all know that robbery would not be tolerated.
They have the best business and have never been robbed after they installed that system of operation. They stock the shelves, clean etc at night while just the drive up windows are open.
A simple system for the little choke and puke stores to reduce the robbery threat IMO....
...and whats wrong with a little violence?
Bad violence: Punks enter convenience store, flash guns, rob store, and shoot employees or customers.
Good violence: Punks enter conveniency store, flash guns, attempt to rob store and are shot by employee(s) and/or customer(s).

Well buy them some range time...pretty simple eh?
