India needs a special law to crush terror: Advani

Reiterating the need for special law to deal with terrorism, BJP president L K Advani today assailed the UPA government for repealing Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA).

"A special law is required to deal with terrorism -- we had made one (POTA) but to please a particular section of the society the UPA government repealed it," Advani said.

There was no point in blaming each other but the fact that a terrorist attack was made at the Ram Janambhoomi complex in Ayodhya, Advani told reporters at the Amausi air port here on his way to the temple town.

Terrorism has acquired a global proportion, he said adding the ugly face of terrorism that India had been witnessing for over two decades was yesterday witnessed by London and a couple of years ago by USA during the 9/11 attacks.

Bring back POTA.POTA's provisions and enforcement might have been flawed, but security analysts insist that it has helped security forces wrest the advantage in the battle against terrorism. It is said to have helped the government act against those financing and channeling funds to terrorist outfits operating in states such as Jammu and Kashmir. An assessment by the Home Min described POTA as "an effective instrument in tackling the overground support base for the terrorist".

The ayodhya attacks have once again proved that india is too soft on terrorism and needs to get its act together. Ofcourse an anti-terror law by itself will not solve all the terror problems but it will be a useful tool in the war against terrorism!!

POTA is not enough. You can fight "Fidayeens" with POTA. The Fidayeens dont remain alive long enough for the laws to be applied on the them. Its no use just having "laws"....against suicide bombers.

The fact remains that none of us have even started fighting terrorists. All that cheap rhetoric about WOT and GWOT is all plain BS. The terrorists are thriving like ever before.

To *FINISH* terrorism we have to hit them in places where they come from....where they are born. You know what I am talking about ???

If our (Indian) government is serious about finishing terrorism (beyond the mere rheoteric), then we(and our government) have make up our mind ........that someday we have to do it.......

What I mean is we would have to take some calculated risk (of nuclear exchange). It will be a gamble but thats what we will need to do to *FINISH* terrorism once and for all. It will have to be a war on the enemy's turn. Burning up the holes from where the breed. And we are not doing that. We are fighting everywhere but where it matters most. The enemy chooses the time and place to strike us. This has to change. We have to choose the time and place to strike them. And strike them we must. Not with POTA but with PGMs.

Yep,I totally agree with Gengis-as long as the source of India's troubles stay external, any law will have zilch effect. For every 5 terrorists POTA stops,1 may get through-that's a universal fact & nothing can be done about it other than hitting the places of origin.

Besides Any anti-terror law will become a political football in the hands of the True secularists like Mulayam & Laloo & the vintage nationalists like Modi.
