Coeur d'Alene, Idaho — The human remains found in Montana last week belong to kidnapped Idaho boy Dylan Groene (search), DNA testing has shown, according to Capt. Ben Wolfinger of the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office. Wolfinger said in an e-mail that the FBI lab in Quantico, Va., had positively identified the remains. "Out of respect for the Groene family and to maintain the integrity of the investigation and prosecution of this matter, there will be no further comment regarding these results," Wolfinger wrote in the e-mail, adding that investigators continue to follow-up on other leads. Convicted sex offender Joseph Edward Duncan III (search) is charged with abducting 9-year-old Dylan and his sister, 8-year-old Shasta Groene (search), from their home, where their 13-year-old brother, mother and her boyfriend were bludgeoned to death. The bodies were found May 16. Police say Duncan is also a suspect in the killings. Dylan had been believed dead. Remains found at a remote western Montana campsite were being analyzed for positive identification. Authorities had been looking for Duncan since he jumped bail in Minnesota on charges of molesting a 6-year-old boy on a Detroit Lakes playground in July 2004. On Friday, it was learned that Duncan wrote last year about a missing Minnesota girl on his Weblog, and investigators are looking into whether he might have had anything to do with her disappearance. In his Internet diary, Duncan wrote in early 2004 that he was afraid he'd be blamed for the disappearance of 5-year-old Leanna "Beaner" Warner (search). In a posting dated Jan. 4, 2004 — more than six months after Leanna's disappearance — Duncan wrote that he just found out about the case.

1975: Duncan told therapists that he sexually assaulted a 5-year-old boy when he was 12 years old...it would have been 1975.
1978: When Duncan was 15, he did the same thing to a 9-year-old boy at gunpoint...it would have been 1978.
1979: Arrested by police after a high-speed chase in a stolen car at 15. During the car chase he tried to run a police roadblock. The crash shattered his sinuses and the right side of his face.He was sent to Dyslin's Boys Ranch for several months.
1979: When he was 16, Duncan told his therapists, he tied up six younger boys and sexually assaulted them...it would have been 1979. Duncan, who dropped out of Lakes High School in Lakewood, Pierce County, in 10th grade, estimated that he'd committed about 13 rapes on younger boys by the time he was 16.
January 24, 1980: City of Tacoma, Washington, Joseph E. Duncan, age 16 (almost 17), was arrested and was sentenced to 20 years in prison. (Duncan was charged with first-degree rape, first-degree burglary and third-degree statutory rape for the assault on the 14-year-old boy. Police and prosecutors said Duncan broke into a neighbor's house in January 1980 and stole a gun. He pulled the gun on a boy who was walking to school and forced him into a wooded area, papers say. Duncan made the boy undress and perform a sex act, court documents say. Duncan then walked the boy farther into the woods, sexually assaulted him a second time, and then beat the boy's buttocks with a stick and burned him with a cigarette.
He led the boy back to his clothes and told him to run away. That night, court records show, Duncan was arrested.)
March of 1982: (19 years old) His therapists concluded that, after 22 months in the Sex Offender Program, Duncan was no longer trying. "He has chosen not to commit himself to our program techniques," therapists wrote. The report details two times that Duncan sneaked out of a special facility for extended visits with family, while his parents were sleeping, and prowled the neighborhood. His treatment providers saw the incidents as proof that Duncan was choosing not to control himself. Duncan was then sent to the state Department of Corrections to serve out his prison term.
September 1994: (31 years old) Duncan was released on parole after serving 14 years in prison. Washington State.
Sometime in 1997: (34 years old) San Francisco, California - Fugitive in hiding. Meets Dr. Wacksman.

A convicted sex offender arrested Saturday in Idaho with a missing girl received financial help from a former Fargo doctor, police records show.
Authorities believe Joseph E. Duncan III, 42, left the Fargo-Moorhead area shortly after April 5, when he posted $15,000 bail in Becker County (Minn.) District Court.
He is charged in Becker County with molesting a 6-year-old boy and trying to molest an 8-year-old boy July 3, 2004, in Detroit Lakes.
Police arrested Duncan Saturday in Coeur d'Alene with an 8-year-old girl whose mother, brother and family friend were found murdered in May.
On May 13, Fargo police investigator Greg Esposito spoke by phone with Richard Wacksman, a former Fargo doctor who befriended Duncan before he moved to Fargo in 2000. Wacksman, who moved from Harwood, N.D., to Florida several years ago, told Esposito he last spoke to Duncan around April 15, when he got a phone call from him, according to a Fargo police report.
The report also said: Wacksman loaned Duncan about $6,500 before his court appearance in Detroit Lakes. The loan was intended to defray attorney fees.
Wacksman said he didn't think Duncan was homicidal, though in the past he talked about suicide and what it would be like to drown.
Duncan apparently thought drowning would be the least painful way to die.
Duncan, who likes to scuba dive, visited Wacksman in Florida in March.
Wacksman told police he is not Duncan's doctor, but the two became friends when Wacksman was a pediatrician in Florida.
He said Duncan was very scared of going back to prison.
Wacksman, who now lives in New Port Richey, Fla., did not return phone or e-mail messages left for him Tuesday.
Wacksman is licensed to practice medicine in Florida, but does not have privileges at any facility in the state, according to a Florida Department of Health Web site.
When Duncan moved to Fargo, police released information on his past, including a document from a 1997 sentence review board hearing in Olympia, Wash., held to determine whether Duncan should be returned to prison for a parole violation.
At the hearing, Wacksman asked that Duncan be released so that he could live at Wacksman's North Dakota home.
Wacksman stated he had no concerns regarding the safety of his children, a view the review board did not share.
The board rejected Wacksman's proposal, finding that: "Under no circumstances whatsoever would the board allow Mr. Duncan to reside in a home where victim age children reside. … With all due respect to Dr. Wacksman, we are not willing to expose his children to that kind of risk."
Wacksman's Harwood neighbors felt the same way five years ago when they learned Wacksman was friends with the Level 3 sex offender, according to Don Nicholas, whose oldest son was friends with one of Wacksman's children.
"We had a neighborhood meeting about it," recalled Nicholas, who now lives in Virginia and was reached Tuesday in Puerto Rico, where he is doing construction work for the National Guard.
Nicholas, who did not attend the meeting, said neighbors confronted Wacksman, who confirmed Duncan had been to his house.
Nicholas said Wacksman told neighbors he would set conditions so Duncan could only visit when he was supervised. To his knowledge, Nicholas said, Duncan never returned to the Harwood residence.
Wacksman told his neighbors Duncan no longer posed a threat and was a changed man, Nicholas said.
"Obviously, he wasn't," Nicholas said.
Police say Duncan gave them little trouble during the five years he lived in Fargo.
However, authorities searched Duncan's Fargo home twice, once in August in connection with the Becker County case and again in April, when police suspected Duncan had not informed them of an address change as required by law.
Police learned in early May that on April 15 Duncan rented a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee from a St. Paul rental car agency. The Jeep was reported stolen after it was not returned by April 20.
A key tag belonging to the vehicle was found in a national park in Wyoming by a park ranger, police said in May. According to a Fargo police report, Duncan e-mailed an upstairs neighbor, Joni Buzick, on May 10 and asked her to take care of his cats. In the e-mail, Duncan writes "life just isn't worth it and that he is truly sorry," the police report said.
The whole event just becomes more and more dramatic as more elements come into the story. The doctor is crazy, Duncan is beyond insane and sick and there could be many more kids he did this too..... Thank God Shasta is back to her Dad and hopefully can start living a happy life... For Dylan its too bad he isn't here but at least for him he is in a better place... I can't say the same thing for Duncan he deserves what is coming to him BIG TIME!!
