Ed Klein, Drowning in Ink and Gasping for Air
Washington Post ^ | July 11, 2005 | Howard Kurtz

Posted on 07/11/2005 7:34:26 AM PDT by Irontank

Despite the enormous hype surrounding Edward Klein's scathing and hearsay-filled book about Hillary Rodham Clinton, the author has been ignored by all but two television talk shows.

This collective cold shoulder hasn't stopped "The Truth About Hillary" from hitting No. 2 yesterday on the coveted New York Times list. "It's the biggest example to date of how major media censorship doesn't stop a book anymore from being a bestseller," Klein declares.

....

"It's just been a total blackout," says Klein, adding that talk radio and some Web sites, including the Drudge Report, have driven sales of the book. "I definitely think there's something organized going on here."

Clinton spokesman Philippe Reines says Klein "didn't even rate a full 15 minutes of fame on national television" because the book is "full of blatant and vicious fabrications."

....

Klein says that MSNBC's Joe Scarborough and Chris Matthews, CNN's Paula Zahn, Fox's John Gibson and ABC's "Good Morning America" were among those who had tentatively booked or expressed strong interest in him, only to drop him like a hot potato. "I can't prove this," he says, but "the Hillary people" have told the networks "she would be mightily displeased if I got on."

....

Isn't that the truth...thank goodness...its already hard to remember the days when the only news we could all get was via the NY Times, the Washington Post and the major networks news' programs. One can only guess how many lies, distorions and inaccuracies disguised as news were able to be broadcast or published and go unchallenged. One can only guess how much news was buried by the MSM in the days when they were the only game in town.

I second his comment: Our "Patriot's History of the U.S." was ignored by EVERY channel, including Fox. Hannity, Cavuto---nobody so much as mentioned it. It was entirely "alternative media" driven, and we are now in our 4th printing and just about to sell out of that, an incredible performance for a 900 page non-fiction hardcover book. (Any other book, it would already be on the NY Times list). We just did an audiobook deal with Blackstone, too.

You think? Of course there is something organized going on here, like Hitlary's cronies and butt kissers making it possible for a total blackout!! Sheesh! Wake up and smell the coffee Mr. Klein, your party will sacrifice you if need be!

True!

Keep the "marketplace of ideas" free and open!

Certainly the Today show had no qualms about Kitty Kelly's book . . .

You scored a direct hit with this statement, I'm almost 59 and it makes me madder than hadies as well as scares the crap out of me. Thinking about all the distortions and lies that I've believed in the past, because of faith in the media.

One things I'm sure of though is that I will never again accept anything released by the MSM without complete openness and documentation (no more annonomyous sources). And I now consider anything the MSM says to be a lie until I'm shown proof otherwise.

His interview on the Bohanan show was carried by C-Span. It was a good viewing.

So was the Clinton Administration, Phil, and that didn't stop the press from doing wall-to-wall (and largely doting) coverage of them.

Scarborough has had a castration since he went over to the dark side.
This is another great example of the inescapable fact that the ratmedia is steadily losing it grip on the news cycle. Those tiresome people who insist that the beast is a threat because the ratmedia wants her to win, PLEASE TAKE NOTE!

"I'm almost 59 and it makes me madder than hadies as well as scares the crap out of me"

I'm 61 and my uncle was publisher of a fairly good-sized MSM newspaper and was president of some kind of nationwide publishing society. When my husband and I, back in 1970 or so, asked him about liberal bias in the media, he said there was no such thing.

He died before the advent of the internet. I've wished many times that he could have seen what's going on now. He thought he was the greatest thing since sliced bread, and I wish he could have seen Dan Rather, Jayson Blair and the rest go down.

But books "full of blatant and vicious fabrications" about Reagan or the Bush family do. Noted.

anyway, we all need to buy the book, I bought it, read it, and its good....lets put it this way, if she becomes President at ANY time in her life our butts are gone....libs, pubbies, inds, doesn't matter, this person is EVIL and has sold her soul to the devil....I just gave the book to my neighbor to read and told her to give it to someone else to read...pass it around...

Thanks for the link. I am going to buy your book. When I get done with some writing projects I am going to do a patriotic-religious blog, about our actual history. I need all the source material I can get my hands on.

I wonder if the publishing industry is surprised at the success of yet another 'blackballed' conservative book. They will give a huge advance to an author prepared to toe-the-line, while missing out on profits if the book doesn't reflect their bigotry.
Now that's the sign of an industry in serious trouble.

"I definitely think there's something organized going on here."

Sounds like Ed has just taken his first fall off the turnip truck. . .

That said. . .bad taste in politics has NEVER kept a book off the MSM networks; when a Repub has been the focus of attention.I am less inKleined, so to speak, to think that he was trying to do Hillary a favor by writing this. . .(though he may have. . .whatever the case)

I am wondering about the sales; like who is buying this book.

Friends doing Hillary an even bigger favor or really curious public. . .
