EXTREMISTS living in Ireland may be plotting atrocities across Europe, the country's justice minister Michael McDowell said yesterday.
Mr McDowell said members of radical terrorist groups may be basing themselves in Ireland in order to avail of the "common travel area" between the state and the UK.
"In the past there has been evidence that some people in Ireland, who have an extremist point of view, have been engaging in logistical support activities for terrorist- type activities in Europe and elsewhere. That is a worrying thing," the justice minister said.

"We are talking about a number of people who are under surveillance and whose activities are the subject of interest by the intelligence services of this island state," Mr McDowell told RTE radio.
I could imagine it would do wonders for IRA public relations to get medievil on some of these imported terrorists.

This probability was forecast some months back when it was posted here on FR that Ireland had become a mecca (sorry), for Muslims emigrating from the Middle East, etc.. Plus, the IRA had trained in Syria, etc. alongside Muslim killers.
Wouldn't that be something.

That's more or less what I said in previous pings since the London bombings - the IRA HAVE got to have links with Al Qaeda!
It's up to you, Happy, I thought Jim Cusack would have dug up something about the 'RA's AQ links, but no joy.
But, try typing 'IRA+Al+Qaeda' in to Google (as I was advised in an IRA thread I posted last week sometime) - the results are 'interesting'!
