Militant killed while meeting reporter
Herald Sun ^ | 14 July 2005

ISRAELI soldiers killed a Palestinian militant as he was meeting a British reporter in the West Bank city of Nablus, witnesses said.

They said soldiers broke into a house where Mohammed Alasi, 24, a local leader of the Al Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades, was talking to the reporter. Alasi tried to flee, but soldiers shot him dead and took his body, witnesses said.

The Israeli military had no immediate comment.

The witnesses did not know which news outlet the reporter represented, giving her name only as "Annie".

They said she was being questioned by Israeli forces, and her translator was detained.

The Al Aqsa group is linked to the ruling Fatah party of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

Nablus, the largest city in the West Bank, is a main centre of militant activity. Israeli forces carry out frequent raids there.

Now you know who's been training terrorists in Britain.

Hmmm...s'pose the IDF is trailing reporters on the sly, since reporters always seem to know the right mud hole to crawl into? Let's see if we can get Terry Moran to set up an interview with bin Hiden...

Awesome! I'm guessing terrorists will be granting a lot less interviews in the future.

There is no doubt; the news media has some blood on its hands.

Couldn't they have gotten the reporter, too?

I know--you can't advocate assassination on
FR, so I apologize.

This is sweet. Now the terrorist ("militant?") is dead, and the reporter is totally burned with the terrorists she was supporting (a Beeb bimbo? Or Reuterstani?) -- they will always think she set them up no matter how she denies it.

Heck, maybe she did. SO at a minimum they won't trust her any more (good) and at a max they will whack her (that would be terribly sad).

That's it, little terrorist cockroaches. Come meet with your auxiliaries: Reuters, BBC, the Associate Press, AFP, Paris Match. Meet your reporter and die.

Or... whack your reporter and maybe we'll kill you last.

Great work. Why the hell can't we take out terrorists who are being filmed by news crews. Certainly if the news crews can find them we can as well. I'm sure that Al-Jazeera would love to show the videos. Or maybe we need to have Special Ops undercover as news crews.....Hmmm!

I don't think the reporter is famous enough or important enough to be "assassinated". Kennedy was assassinated. Lincoln was assassinated. I even heard that John Lennon was assassinated (although I would say he was just killed). You're OK.

You raise a good point, normy, one I have pondered myself in idle moments. What does your status have to be to earn the assassination moniker? I used to think you had to be a high-ranking political figure, but of course we refer to Martin Luther King as having been assassinated, and an assassination attempt on Pope John Paul II. Leon Trotsky is usually just said to have been murdered, likewise Che Guevera, even though they were both influential (albeit disgusting) political figures. Yes, I have heard of Lennon being referred to as assassinated, the only musician so honored as far as I know. Guess you have to be a Beatle. Nobody ever said Marvin Gaye was assassinated by his father. Hmmm, haven't there been some stories saying Theo Van Gogh was assassinated? Pym Fortuyn definitely gets that title, even though he was only running for high office. Somebody needs to clear this up. Might as well be FR.

Wow, those Israeli's have colossal cojone's! A small nation living amongst an Arab world. We would only dream of doing this despite the fact we are bigger, further away and have superior military might.

Smart? no. Impressive? yes.
