To expound upon my first post, I think this is more of a sign that stupid people were polled here. Karl Marx, sadly, is by far the most well know name on that list. Granted, Plato and Aristotle probably have the same amount of name recognition, but I doubt the average person polled could explain any of their ideas. Marx's ideas are all too well known.

The fact that they know nothing is shown by the fact that everything we know about Socrates (8th) comes to us from Plato's (4th) Dialogues!! I'd say Marx should be #1 if it comes to the most HARMFUL influential philosopher. None could rival his influence for its destructive and demonic results.
