Sen. Clinton raises $6 million in 3 months (Hillary)

In a Senate race that could have implications for the 2008 presidential contest, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton raised more than $6 million between April and June.

Campaign reports filed by Senate candidates Friday with the Federal Election Commission showed the former first lady, a New York Democrat, had $12.6 million cash on hand at the end of last month, even though she has no clear opponent yet.

Manhattan lawyer Edward Cox, a son-in-law of former President Nixon, has begun preparations to challenge Clinton and Republican party officials also are courting Westchester County District Attorney Jeanine Pirro as a possible challenger.

Patti Solis Doyle, executive director of Friends of Hillary, said she expects "very well-funded opposition next year."

Clinton's first campaign for Senate in 2000 smashed fundraising records, with she and her Republican opponent, then-congressman Rick Lazio, together spending about $80 million.

A strong showing in next year's Senate race could give added momentum to Clinton's early frontrunner status among possible Democratic candidates in the 2008 presidential race. But a bruising contest could slow her down.

Another closely watched Senate race is in Pennsylvania, where incumbent Republican Rick Santorum is facing a challenge from the son of a former governor.

Santorum raised $3.6 million in three months and reported $5.7 million cash on hand as he prepares to fend off Democratic charges that he is too far to the right on social issues.

The challenger, state treasurer Robert P. Casey Jr., reported raising $1.9 million between April and June, ending the period with $1.6 million cash on hand.

Interesting....Says Hillary smashed record and she and Lazio spent a total of $80 mill....but it doesn't break it down.

It would be interesting to undertake a thorough analysis of the source of this funding. I would bet there are a lot of Clintonian special interest groups (Chinese industrialists, Scientologists, etc) involved.

The obvious motive here is to build a warchest which she can distribute to Democratic candidates throughout the country. Of course, help from Hillary doesn't come without a price, and she'll be collecting those chips in 2008.

Which explains why the Deniacs didn't do very good in raising money lately - Hillary was sitting on it!

"Chump change for George Soros...were there any other donors???"

George Soros will be 78yo in 2008. I am concerned that he is going to make a "last stand" of epic proportions for Hillary. I wouldn't be surprised to see him funding a third-party candidate if that is what it takes to get her in the White House.

$6 mill, unreal. A bonafide psychopath can squeeze out $6 mill from people and I can`t even get up enough to pay off my tax bill. Maybe I should start acting like a wacko. On the other hand, my tax bill is huge because I live in New York, and we all know who must pay for Hitlerys "yes yes yes yes yes" to every spending opportunity that crosses her desk. Hopefully the only White House this nut will ever see will be one that is padded.

Exactly!!

You realize that George Soros has started all these 527's and most of them are run by Hillary goons. She's got another source than the DNC to ger her funding and her activists.

What I can't figure out is how she will control them (those same 527's) when she leans farther right and they begin to fight her to stay left ..??

"Now Hillie is selling pardons? Are they any good or is it just another Clinton scam?"

I suspect that we're going to see a lot of right-thinking business leaders starting to donate to her cause as well. It's obvious that she has a real chance of getting elected, and who wants to be on her bad side if she's in control of the executive branch and appoints her cronies to the FBI, IRS and CIA, as well?

Part of John Kerry's problem was that nobody feared him.

"Well .. the Deaniac bunch don't like her all that well .. and I wouldn't be shocked to see them NOT SUPPORT HER."

Neither would I. But their numbers are small, as evidenced by the results of the 2004 primaries. They are prominent on the Internet, but I'd be surprised if the hard-core Deaniacs number more than 1 million voters out of 50 million Democrats.

Hillary will use them to her advantage. She'll use the primaries to "differentiate" herself as a "centrist", aided and abetted by the MSM.

Well .. you're probably right. Although their numbers are small - they are very vocal .. but even then .. I don't know how much damage they could really do to her.
