Chicago Man Steals Squad Car To Get To Work Suspect Caught When He Stopped To Help Someone Save It Email It Print It (CBS) CHICAGO A West Side man says he needed to get to work, and he made a decision that he'll probably regret.

Now Miguel Espinosa is in jail for stealing a marked Chicago police squad car.

Detectives say the 38-year-old Espinosa noticed the squad car outside a restaurant on North Western Avenue Thursday night.

The officer had left the keys in it while he went inside to eat. So Espinosa stole it and drove to work at the Whole Food Bakery House.

The suspect stopped to help someone who flagged him down Friday morning. That's when police nabbed him.

Espinosa is in jail on $350,000 bond.

It's their own fault. The car had a slogan on it that plainly indicated that it was to be used in the service of the public. This guy just thought the public was him.

Something tells me if he stole my car he wouldn't be held on a 350K bond.

Something tells me that if he attempted to steal my car, he'd no longer be breathing.

The jury will declare him "too stupid to be guilty."

Yeah, steal a cop car, lose your job. Catchy rhyme, that one.

Apparently the judge is just as smugly arrogant as the jerk cop that left his keys in the car.

There actually was a time when in our country that the cop would have been laughed out of the courtroom.

Such is the state of American justice.

His ass is grass.

He'll never see a jury unless a smart lawyer jumps on this for some publicity.

This reminds me of a story I heard some time ago.

It seems that a guy was pulled over for suspicion of DUI and while he was performing the "line test" there was an accident on the other side of the highway. The cop ran to the accident to help and the guy that had been pulled over hightailed it for home.

the next morning there was a knock on this fellow's door. It was the officer that had pulled him over the previous night.

"OK, you got me, but how did you know where to find me?" he asked. The officer brought him to his garage where the cruiser was parked with the blue lights still going.
